My tongue is almost bleeding right now. I just had to bite it so hard when the guy at Total Seal tried telling me that the 420a is made by Mistubishi. He wanted me to buy the rings for a 4g63. He had nothing around to tell him what set of rings I needed to order for a 420a with a .020" overbore.

So can someone who has the info handy (since I can't research it that deep here at work), please post up the following specs?

* bore diameter (I would assume that mine is now .020" greater, correct?)

* ring groove width and depth

Thank you. I don't want to have to take an old piston to their plant and smack someone with it.

I'm running the Wiseco 10.5:1s if it makes any difference...

Wiseco's site shows the bore diamter (at .020" over) as being 88.00/3.464 mm/inches. This can't change based on CR, since the bore is not changed other than overboring.

Then, when I checked the Howell Catalog (as they offer TS rings in the catalog), and they have a little blurb at the bottom saying: Top: .060", 2nd: .060", bottom: .119" Again, knowing that assumption is the mother of all fuck ups, isn't this what they're looking for?

Finally, I'm sure I could just call Howell and buy them, but if ERT doesn't carry them (yet), why should I pay Howell for them, and have to wait a month for something like piston rings which were manufactured less than 30 minutes drive from my house?

So still, thanks if anyone can confirm this. Considering the saleman I talked to has no idea what he's talking about, I want to be absolutely certain I'm ordering the right thing. I'm out of time and money for fuck ups before the SO. This has to be done right imo.

In searching here and there (and even calling Howell and asking them if he could look up the Total Seal part # for me - which he said he couldn't, "extremely busy." I bet. extremely busy telling people it's in stock and then proceeding to be completely out and letting them rot for a good month or so imo.) Yeah, I'm an ass for that one, but shitty progress on a simple problem and no one with the damn part number is either intelligent enough to know where they put the damn thing or too "busy" to look it up.

I went to the Total Seal catalog on their site and found that they have the engine listed as a damn a588. Well no shit he thinks it's made by Mitsu. Fuckers. Pick a fucking engine code will ya? It's been 10 years! (Wait. They did. They picked 4g63 didn't they.)

So all this time I just needed to tell the do0d to quote me on the ones for the a588. I've searched and found that 2GNTs are all stamped "420a" and I've even seen the VIDEO of Dino proving that fact, but internally, they are the same, or the same enough that I can use these rings. The Total Seal p/ns match for both the a588 Eclipse and 2.0L DOHC Neon so I'm gonna wash my hands of this useless post which serves no purpose other than to document my relative insanity.
