#76612, ""drum beating" sound out of intake???"

I just finished replacing my timing belt. Everything is back together, however when I try to start the car, it cranks like it wants to start, but it doesn't. The funny thing is is that when I step on the gas while trying to turn it over, a stange sound kinda like a beating drum appears. It sounds like it is coming from my CAI or atleast around the drivers side of the engine. I have checked for fuel and spark, and they are good. Any opinions???

You goofed up the timing marks.....pull it apart again. the sound you are hearing is the intake opening while the cylinder is pressurized.

i lined up the marks with both sprokets wording reading from left to right, 2.o ... 609(the inscribed letters and numbers on the sprokets). I am sure that the exhaust sproket dowel pin is facing down, but because I never removed the intake sproket, I wasn't sure where the dowel was facing, I am under the impression that it is supposed to be facing up??? All I soule have to do then is rotate the intake cam 180 degrees? Thanks for the info.

don't take this for fact, but i am pretty sure you need to line up the cam gear notch marks pointing straight at eachother, while the crank is at tdc...right? if im wrong lemme know. its been a while since i did my udp.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

420a you are very much correct. However when you do that the writing on the gears are not the same, one is right side up the other is upside down, hense one dowel is up one is down. Believe it or not i have two sets of marks on my timing gears, one is dead wrong and poss marked by previous owner or mechanic. I found this out the hard way when i started her up and ran like crap at idle. pulled apart and referenced my talon marks and the marks on my eclipse were wrong.
