from 0-4k rpms on the highway i smell gas and get a nice hesitation along with it. Feels like the car is a bit sluggish when this starts to happen. Im leaning towards my fuel pressure regulator, how often do these get out of whack?

more info, i dont think it will matter though. The car drives fine for 20 minutes or so, then i will start to smell gas in spurts. If im driving 60 or so its more intense, and reverse for going slower. The other day i drove for a few hours and towards the end of the trip it sounded as if the motor was gurgling under acceleration. I checked all lines and fittings under the hood and i dont have a leak anywhere. Also, the hesitation goes away after 4k rpms, i guess the higher rpms help burn off the extra gas. I have ngk one range hotter plugs gapped to .042(how they came), could this have anything to do with it? I have another fpr on the way, and im changing the fuel filter, and plug wires soon. Any help here?

since you have no leaks check fuel pressure and include details with size on injectors, SAFC if used ect. With engine off cycle the key on and off twice to prime the fuel line and remove the vacuum hose on the regulator......if fuel comes out you have a ruptured diaphragm causing you to run rich.

If you smell gas, maybe its a sensor or something...someone else on the forums was talking about this and it turned out there car was running rich and dumping fuel into the engine and suffocating it...that could cause the car to hesitate..

Check it out imo..

o2 sensor is probably the only one that i could replace at the moment that would cause the excessive gas to be pushed into the motor.
