#76425, "Question About Our Passenger Side Motor Mounts"
Jun-21-04 11:35 AM by WickedESi

Deyeme Racing keeps insisting that the hole location in our passenger side motor mount should be about 3/4 an inch lower than it is on my stock one here:

I don't have a profile view of the mount they sent me outside of the car, but it's hole was way lower than centered, unlike the stock mount. When I put it in my car, it tore the mount so that it made it centered, and leveled the engine:

So I guess what I'm asking is, are the holes for our mounts suppose to be centered, or is my car just a freak?

They must not have a clue what they are talking about. How can you look at a stock mount and say that it's wrong??? emoji Unless your stock mount was severly torn up and you could see it was in the wrong place due to the damage. If I were you I would put the stocker back in and never go back to that shop again...

They are saying that my stock mount is worn and that the hole has been pushed up from age, and that they come stock with the hole lower.

My stock mount is torn and no good. I got to find out what a good mount for our car is suppose to look like.

Joel, how the hell are ya? It's been forever y0. On the 25 of July or so, come with me to Montgomery Motor Whatever. The 3KGT/Stealth guys are having a meet and I'm in the middle of a TT conversion on my friends SL. Also, the 99 RS in the nearby junkyard probably has that mount. Its about 45 miles away, but I could check it out on WED as I'm headed to BHAM. Catch me on AIM!

I didn't send mine in. The one they sent me was wrong though.

Looks like they sent u a Mitsu Galant Mount, they are very similar in shape and size. Look on the bottom and see if there is a place to screw in to small bolts (8-10mm) for the rubber support\stopper. If there are holes, then u got the wrong mount. Notice that purple dot, it means something, so cars have purple, some have green. I have two 96 MT 2gnt mounts in my garage, the mounts are different, but both are centered.

We even looked up the part number (and so did he) and came up with the part number for what we sent. It's hard to belive the part number stayed the same but the part itself changed. The first time we sent the part, we sent it "off the shelf" from our stock. After we got word it was the wrong part, I went to the parts counter and looked up ALL POSSIBLE part numbers, and ordered the same one again, since it was the only possible part (the others were either export-only, turbo, or v6).
Joels mount hole was centered, but as you can see in the pic, it's also filled with something. Does anyone have a STOCK mount they could look at the rubber in, take a pic, and reply with any identifying numbers on the rubber part of the mount?
This is a frustrating dilemma, and it's the first complaint I've heard. If there is some kind of difference, I could also make a spacer to go between the mount and the bracket it mounts to on the engine, if there's enough bolt length for it- say 1/4" or 3/8" thick aluminum?
Also, he didn't order a complete set of mounts, so I can't know if one or more of the other mounts is causing a misalignment. The mounts we sell are based on brand new, OEM parts, and the molds we make for the solid mounts are done based on those new parts (we usually create the mold by filling the stock mount with clay, which obviously won't move the bolt-hole from it's intended position). Can anyone find a new part at a dealer that has the hole centered?
Because this was for a Talon, I went to my MoPar dealer, but I'll check with our Mitsu dealer this week, and see if there are any different p/n's (like for the Galant).

Just wanted to say I came down a little hard on these guy's by making the assumption that they had his mount in hand, and then sent out a different one and said his was wrong. These guy's seem pretty sharp so I may have condemed them pretty quickly. I didn't realize they were a specialty shop I figured they were just the average tire monkeys down the street...
Also about the part # thing, they do that all the time. When i was looking for a certain fuel rail for the 8 inj setup they have only one part # but they have 2 diff rails..
