I got my motor rebuilt a few weeks ago, when the guy put it back together, it ran but a ecu wire was crimped or burned somehow and it fried my ecu. I got a used one from another eclipse(not sure if it was exacly off a 99 m/t), installed it and the car turned on and ran. The same night, my pulley bolt snapped and my timing belt jumped off the pulley and shredded the side of the belt causing 4 valves to bend. The new valves are put in and now i think my ecu is bad again. I turned the key to the on position and no check engine comes on at all, but everything else turns on. The car tries to start but doesn't. We checked all the sensors(all brand new), checked ignition, and fuel pump turns on fine, so this leads me to believe it is the ecu. Now my question is, could a different year eclipse like a 96-97 ecu cause this since i have a 99, or is it still something else causing my ecu to be messed up. Any suggestione or help appreciated.

Well if the car is not starting then one of two things is wrong. Your not getting fuel or your not getting spark. (well air would be the other but I doubt your intake is clogged...lol) So if I were you I would find out what it's not getting and then you can track the symptoms back to the causes. Does that make sence? I also find it very hard to believe that the ECU's would just go bad back to back..

Thanks, i appreciate the replies.I thought it was timing also, but the guy said it was on right and that it wasn't timing. I am getting fuel and not getting spark.

The first time after rebuild that my ecu got crimped, i changed that sensor and the camshaft position sensor so they are both new, at least been on and car driven less than 120 miles. I don't think the new one could be bad since when the car ran before my timing belt, it ran good with everything new(ignition coil, spark plugs, camshaft sensor, and crank angle sensor. Thanks for the suggestion,i will check that out if the other ecu coming in tomorrow doesnt fix the car.

I seriously doubt it's the ECU but since it's comming you might as well try it. If your not getting spark then the ignition is your issue. Did you check the ASD relay? Is there an aftermarket ignition installed?

Your ASD relay is on the driver side of the fire wall near the washer fluid tank but further to the right. They basicly sit in that large hole back on the very far driver side of the fire wall. If you're an auto you will have 4 if 5 speed you should have 2. IDR which is which but they are both there...
