I was out trying to start my car this aft. and it wouldn't go.....kept turning and turning. so i get tim to crank it over and I pull plug wirte #1. No sparky. wtf? so is it teh connector. why the hell would the connector go before the damn stock coil. i wigg led the connector and bang....she started. then later on I goto try and star her again and bleh.....nothing so I try the same trick (wiggle) and it works again.\

now for the 3rd time it won't work. and I don't wanna sit at home....lol


I'm pretty sure its not the cam sensor...(it's 2 months old) could be the crank sensor but I've pretty much narrowed it down to spark.....but I'm sure the crank has something to do with ignition.

yeah on my 95 the connector seemed to be going bad

I would start the car and it would run like crap, so I would jiggle the connector and it would run better. Didnt seem to have a firm connection. So I swapped to the 97 connector and coil off of my silver car and it has been better.

ok gotcha. thats exactly whats it's doing...when I wiggle it, it idles funny.....sometimes not even starting at all.

I don't really want to replace my coil right yet if I don't have too. its got 100K on it so do you think I should jsut get a new connector.

wait wait wait wait.... you are approaching this from the wrong end. as i recently discovered, some of the spark plug "caps" (the things that screw onto the end of the plug so the plug wire can "sanp" onto them) can come loose over time. ALWAYS replace plugs and wires first. coils dont generally go bad.

also, the ignition system (plugs, wires, coil) should have almost a 0% chance of your starting difficulties. ive never once seen the harness go bad, however i HAVE seen the battery terminals get slightly loose or corroded resulting in the symptoms you describe. check your battery and its connections first before you tear into the ignition system.

edit: after reading over your post again, it sounds like you have two unrelated problems. the starting issue is one, and the stumbling issue is another one. for the starting issue check the battery, for the stumbling/hesitation when starting check the plug wires.

I shit you not that it was the connector that went south as in not being a firm solid physical connection. I had replaced the coil which was bad ( not too common ), but the stumblimg and bumbling was due to the crappy connection.

SPL, I checked all the connections to my red top Optim.a. everything is GOOD & TIGHT. Also the wires & plugs MAYBE have 500 miles op them.

HAS anyone evar had the metal piece that connects onto your plug (in the wire) come off when they pulled the wire out of the spark plug hole? does that make sense? this happened to me with an earlier set of wires.I was pissed and that caused problems.

The fact that, it won't start , then i wiggle the connector, then it starts leads me in that direction.

My car is sitting at the shop today and my dad is looking at it whhile I'm at work. (i got teh pimp work truck to drive) so it'll be fixed by the end of the day(i think)

^^^yes, thats what im saying. those "caps" can come loose (always rememebr to tighten them down when you install plugs). you wont even notice it until you pull the plugs, as the cap gets jammed up into the wire forcing the spark to arc across the wire to the screw on top of the plug.
