My car is making a ticking/knocking noise. Im hoping its just chatter from my Spec stg 3 clutch or something like that, cuz I dont feel like spinning another bearing. Well the noise increases with rpms but after like 3 you cant hear it (maybe apex is too loud ) If you hold the clutch in all the way the noise does not go away. Its not lifter tick, b/c its there even after the car is hot. I do have a slight oil and tranny leak that i cant fix or narrow down to where it is, but the fluid has never gotten below minimum

sounds like its in the motor. clutch chatter should go away when you push in the clutch pedal. mne does and all other i have seen do. I would drop your oil pan and tap on each rod with a small ball peen hammer. listen to the sound each makes, if one sounds odd or very different then drop that cap and take a look inside at the bearing. Do you have a built bottom, piston slap maybe? Are you sure its not comming from the valve cover area. if not sure take off the cover and start it up to hear the lifters clearly.

You couldn't have another spun bearing. It's probably the fuel injectors opening and closing. You ought to hear how loud these 720cc injectors are! Call me on Sunday and I'll take a listen.

BTW- it's not clutch chatter. That's when you're slippin the clutch and you can feel it acting jumpy. Hard to explain with words but it's not a sound.

If you've spun a bearing (doh..), you'll have metal in the oil. You can take a strong magnet (i used one outta a sub) and run it through the oil. If this doesnt satisfy you, drop the pan, hold the rod caps, and shake them front to back (or left to right depending on orientation..) if the rod moves, its gonna be teh suck.

I had that same problem. The knock can be heard only after 3k. It was a spun bearing. Rod number four. Got to the conclusion that the oil pump was not pumping good pressure. Try removing the oil filter and cut it open with a knife. Check for metal shavings, also try removing the oil pan and check the rods.

There will be no difference in horsepower loss due to this, so if I were you, I will check the filter and/or rods.
