I'm doing an engine rebuild this week so I'm in a dilema on which way to go. In the future I want to make my car turbo so I would get low compression pistons but then if I go that way I cant get 18 crane cams. If I go with high compression now and then slap a turbo on it, ill just be asking for problems. So my question is, how with crane 18's affect my 8.6 pistions with long rods ?

Rather than get into specific details of increased rod length, taller, hi-comp piston faces, stroke and increased valve lift and duration which I figure you would need a vast amount of number to play with, I'll just make a couple related comments:

1. You do not have to lower your CR to run higher boost levels. You want to do this is you're not into paying super close attention to your engine and tuning it often at the edge of the envelope. There are those on here running 10.5:1 with modest boost and holding up fine. There are others planning on running some decent boost at 10.5:1 with the AFX ECU in the future. It can all be done, you just need to evaluate how much attention you want to give your car. If you want to set it and for get it Ron Popiel stylee, then an 8.8:1 CR, stock rod, Crane 0014, with a 3 angle and supporting mods will do nicely.

2. If you want to pick a good cam for use with your turbo system, you might want to check the advanced tuning forum for the cam discussion. It's not the freshest or shortest read in here, but there is a lot of dicsussion on what's good with a turbo and what to look for. Consider it the 2GNT Cam Primer. emoji

Hope this helps. Try to narrow down the subjects you search on in here. "Cams + turbo" isn't going to narrow it own as much as "Crane 18" or "lift + duration." You'll get there, but when you're planning to do a rebuild "this week" it's obviously down to just do it and see what happens.
