well my timing belt broke again last mon. this is the 3rd one now. and the last time i had teh whole head redone. ported polished and the head rebuid kit from howell. so i wasnlt very happy when 20k miles later i bent 4 more valves. does antyone know what could cause it to keep breaking? maybe because i do not have a timing bekt cover? i am ording one this time do tyou think that will help or could it be something else. aslo where can i get a good timing belt kit that comes with the tensioner pullies i have a new water pump so i don't need one of those. i was just thinking maybe the tensioner pully is bad.

I doubt it has to do with the belt cover. Many people dont even have one to show off their cams. It might be a good idea to check how your cams are adjusted since your getting lucky by not blowing a piston.

what happened the other two times - and what belt are you using? gaterback is very good quality. were you running on new idler bearings, tensioner, etc...

so, your saying the belt just breaks? Tell us what the belt looks like. is it worn? Did it just fall off? is it rubbed. tell.
Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related. Step 1: Put down everything in your hands. Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it. Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you. If not. Go here: here
If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

the belt was bought at advanced auto so i am not sure what kind it was i am having troubles finding a performance one. i was looking for one with kevlar in it. and no i didn't change the tensioner pully it seemed ok. i must of been wrong unless a rock could of bounced in there a broke it. there was a pieces of the belt missing it looks like it tore or something. the other times 1st it brioke on its own. then the second the alternator came loose the belt fell off and wedged between the timing belt and the crank pully. so it lifted off and the piston hit the valves. so it didn;t really break.
