Will a P&P intake manifold benefit turbocharged vehicles? Probably a dumb question but I was just wondering since I just got my intake manifold (extruned honed) from Armond and thinking about turbocharging my GS with a stage 2 kit. I also got the MP tb and is port-matched with the manifold. And since people say that stage 2 kits will work with stock internals, I guess my stock injectors would be okay? I'm not technical enough to do the 8-injector set-up and wouldn't want to run to rich with bigger injectors. Sorry, plz help a noob out.

Yes, they will benefit it, but is it worth it? You stated you have a Extrude honed intake, that is different from a P&P one. Extrude hone only smooths the casting, it doesn't port one. Porting removes material, or even weld in new material to direct the flow for performance. Depending on the port work and how detailed, they can make double the power increase over extruded honed. If you have an extruded intake you can usually take it to somebody and they can port it to get the full benefit.
Back to the question, is it worth it. Maybe. What did it cost? Could you gained the same amount with an additional 1 or 2 psi of boost? That would be free power. On our race cars we put the full port to them, but we are looking for the last once of power from them as well.

Sorry missed this part. On stock internals limit the boost to 5 psi. To make the engine more likely to live, run a Crane HI-6 so you don't hit the factory revlimiter and cut the fuel and melt a piston. This will limit your RPM's, so if it is a 97 run an AFX PCM to get the higher rev limiter, that is what Len Ayala and Darrell Cox do on their turbo installs on street cars.

The one of biggest benefits to this setup is the removal of the 7250RPM factory fuel cut, which can cause severe engine damage under boost (it does REMOVVE FUEL, after all). Combined with a crane HI6DI2, it will allow you to not only pull back a few degrees of timing where you need it (which will allow you to run more boost on pump gas), but move the rev limit up to 7500 or 8000 on a soft-touch rev limit which will NOT cause the fuel loss or the "hit a brick wall" feeling of fuel cut. With a properly configured soft touch and the higher rev limit of the AFX ECU, you'll have a faster car overall and a great platform to build on.

Well I have a 95 GS so its pretty difficult for me to attain a 97 ECU. I've always wanted one but had trouble finding someone who's willing to sell their ecu ('97). If I wanted to run up to 9-10 psi, what kind of upgrade/mods would I still need and how much will I be able to run with the mods I currently have (mods on sig)?

If you bought Armond's manifold, you should have a manifold that was ported, then extrude honed which is the best way to do it. There no way by hand that you can get to every part of the manifold, but extrude hone does, so the combo of the both is the best out there.

The AFX ecu is better to use with a turbo? I didnt know this i though the AFX added timing advance and was know to be a bad idea for the 420a turbo application.

I'm pretty sure it's not just because it advances timing, but the extent to which it does so and when it does so, that can lead to dangerously lean conditions if not in the hands of a capable tuner. Just like you can run higher compression than stock and still bolt on a turbo. It all depends on how close to the edge you feel comfortable in getting with your engine and how closely you want to have to tune it imo.

Ok i see your point...i never asked why it was a bad idea. Maybe i will go that route once i have everything else tuned in....personally i like the anal tunign route.....Drives me nuts to think my car isnt performing to its every exact capability.

The manifold will help out quite a bit, especially over stock. The stage two kit is capable of 9-10psi (depending on how strong your stock internals are...lol). I would play it safe around 8, and I think it does use the stock injectors as well...
BTW, Armond is a really cool guy. I was fortunate enought to meet him in person in May. Looking forward to riding in his twin 20G stealth this summer. =)
