OK well I tried to do a leak down test today but The tester I have is to big. So i rigged something up and it seemed to work. The motor would loose about 1-2 psi over like 5-7 min. I dont know if it was leaking from teh cap I made or what. Then I started it and let it run for a while looking for air in the coolent. I got some air bubbles and then it eventually stopped. I had a funnel sticking in the fill. I reved it up high several times and still no air. I am thinking it might not be the gasket after all. Do you think it could just be getting hot and pushing out the coolent. The gauge stays in the same spot all the time. Perhaps it is getting enough cooling when I am driving but when I stop it builds up heat? Maybe a bigger radiator? Larger psi cap? Should I run a colder than stock thermosthat? could there just be air in the system causing this? I am getting frustrated. any input? best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction) fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong... www.cnnmotorsports.com

i don't think you're doing the leak down test correctly. it should be done with the car off and using an air compressor hooking up the leak tester gauge. there's a specific gauge that indicates how much percent of a leak you have. the thing is i would 1st do a compression test and check if is indeeed from the piston and above. the way to do that is add a tablespoon of oil each cylinder at a time. check compression and see if it it's above normal. if it is then it's the headgasket or above it. the leakdown test also will help you determine if there's a stuck valves or cracks in the head. so those are other possiblities. but if you say there's air bubbles coming out, it could be, but i would start all over and do the compression test to really see if it is the headgasket. usually you'll get a reading of over 25% if the headgasket is bad. you can also tell from just the compression test alone.

The leak down test I did was for the coling system. It pressurizes te cooling system to check for leaks. It is a special pump wiht a gauge. I have the tester you are talking about too so maybe I will try that next after a compression test. best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction) fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong... www.cnnmotorsports.com

If you did a leakdown and there was no air escaping, i'd say its not a headgasket.
Did you pressurize the combustion chamber, or the cooling system itself?

All a leakdown really is is connecting your air compressor to a spark plug hole with that cylinder at TDC. Repeat for all 4 cylinders.
If you're too ghetto to own a leakdown tool, just modify your compression tester by removing the schrader valve and use the proper fittings to get it hooked up to your air compressor.
If you hear hissing in the exhaust or intake, its valves. If you hear hissing from the oil cap, its rings. If your coolant level *rises* even the slightest amount or bubbles, its headgasket.

Well if you would simply read I stated that I did a cooling system leakdown test. Two ghetto to own a leakdown tester. Actually I have one for the cylinders. I AM DOING THE COOLING. The cooling tester I have is for a normal size radiator cap. Well I drained the coolent today and put the green coolent in. I am going to try that next. If not I will go the cylinder leakdown. I am hoping just the red coolent is stupid and expands more. I might also try the 16lb cap off a gst. Thanks to any one who is trying to help. Anyone who makes stupid ass comments can go fuck themselves, sorry in advange because I am in a really pissed off mood right now. best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction) fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong... www.cnnmotorsports.com

Woah Woah, red coolant?? FWIK That is a spesific type of coolant for a specific type of cooling system. Our cars are not designed for the DEX cool they are designed for regular old coolant (the green stuff) that may be your problem right there.

Yeha the green stuff seems to be working better already. I need to beat on it a bit to find out for sure. best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction) fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong... www.cnnmotorsports.com

Red/Orange coolant is NOT for our cars. It's very different chemically and is totally incompatible with the Green. You need to flush your system like 100 times to get every drop of orange out before adding green or it will congeal and make a mess.
I did read that you did a coolant pressure test, thank you. That was the wrong test, which is why I pointed you to the leakdown pressure test. Did *you* read the link?
The ghetto comment was not to be taken personally, as just about everyone on here is ghetto including myself. Who the hell has $300 for a real leakdown test tool?
