OK heres the deal...first I drained the oil. Then I lowerd it back down and cleaned the engine with that simple green and hosed it off. Then once that dried, I put my oil in and checked the dip stick only to find a milky residue. It has never been like this before...whats the deal? I tried searching for this in previous posts with no luck. If you know what it is please let me know. Thanks guys.

Ok well I assume its water that got in there so I took it for a 5 min drive and then checked it when I got back and its still milky. So I am just going to redrain the new oil and replace it. I dunno what else to do

Mine is a 97 with 73k on it.

Ok well I just got back in from redraining the old and filling it with new. Then I took it for a drive and check it again and its clear as a bell. Just got some water in there from cleaning the engine. Man you should of seen how milky it was...almost as white as MILK! I really don't think its the head gasket bro, reason being the first time I drained it today it was fine...no milkyness <<< is that a word? Anyway then I cleaned the engine with simple green and hosed it off. Then I filled put the oil in and I know water must have gotten in there from cleaning the engine.

After all that do you still thinks its the gasket? If so I will tear that mother fucker apart. LOL!

its leaking dude.... i wouldnt lie to ya
our head are notoriuos for slight leaks...
(been threw 4 head gaskets)*w/ only 87000 miles on the car*
the reason i say this.. is because water just doent enter the crankcase for no reason at all...... but id def. replace it even if there is a doubt in your mind... imagine the leak getting worse....car starts to over heat every 5-10 mins... runs very sluggish.. or even worse.. goes boom cause the leak go so bad.. that water got into the clyinder, compressed and bent the shit out of a rod.... now a 50$ head gasket swap that could take you just a nice weekend afternoon... turns into a complete rebuild runnning u a lil over 1000$.

but thats just a thaught

well considering the milage he has on his car.. and the fact it hasnt been changed....that tells me that it still has the composite head gasket and thus leaks like a bitch..*LOL*water in the crankcase is only cause by one of two things.... leaking head gasket or cracked block...
i mean ya... go ahead and do a comp test.... may or may not tell ya much if its a slight leak... i know mine didnt tell me shit one time.

OK well it seemed fine last night after I put the new oil in it. The milkyess is gone. But when i drove to work today it started running sluggish and backfired like twice and got that feeling like it was starving for something with the puh pu pu puh type sound. So its the head gasket then huh? It has never done this before. Plus I notice when I got to work there was some oil lying in the valve cover near the plugs. I just cleaned all that yesterday so its spitting oil out but it wasn't smoking or anything.

How much is a compression test and all the tests plus the new head gasket gonna run me if thats the problem?

The oil on top of your valve cover is from a leaking valve cover gasket. I just did this on my 99 and a 95. Easy job though and it doesn't take maybe 30 mins to do. I am about willing to bet you have water in your spark plug holes and this is what is causing the backfiring and other problems you are having. If you do the headgasket job I suggest if you run aftermarket wires to clean them well before reinstalling them. And make sure to replace your plugs.

Ok so if I go ahead and get a new head gasket, what kind do you recommend me getting. Same applies with the plug wires and plugs. I have never replaced my plug wires/plugs. How much for each of these items?

Are you sure you got all the water out from around the plugs? I detailed my engine once and got all kinds of water in the plug wells. I got most of it out, but once the engine got hot enough, it began to boil the water around the bases of the plugs and would short the spark in random cylinders. Before you go spending big bucks on head gasket materials, pull your plugs and let us know how they look.

I've also seen oil on top of the valve cover as a result of a leaky PCV hose or worn out PCV valve. You might also pull the PCV and give it a shake to make sure it still opens and closes.

Just some cheap suggestions imo.

Ok well DR1665 was right about the plug wells being full. I didn't get a chance to drive it but I hope that is the only problem. You should of seen the amount of water I got out of each well. OMFG!

Is there anything I should keep my eyes out for after draining the wells? Just want to thank you guys for your help. Its very appreciated.

If you ran your car with water in the plug wells, you might need new spark plug wires now.

Moisture creates an arc hole through the side of the wire, which is why your car was misfiring.

Just whatever you do, don't get them from autozone! Their premium and regular wires both disintegrate the first time you pull them off the spark plugs. However they offer a lifetime warranty so I suppose you could just keep taking the broken ones back for new ones every time you change your spark plugs

I use magnecores, but they're expensive. NGK are good.

How much are the magnacores? And where do I pick up a set of those or the NGKs? What about bosch plug wires?

I just got back from work and on my way home I found a shop that sold me a set of NGK plug wires, plus he let me use his air compressor to blow out more water. Runs fine now..just waiting for the engine to cool down to install the wires. Its like 95 out right now...not including the humidity.

Now I feel that I, too, was thrown under the bus for not being as gratefully thanked as teh kaoz do0d. LOL Just playin. Glad to hear you got it figured out man. I had all that water bubbling and boiling in there and she would misfire and sounded like a fucking POS Harley Davidson. CEL was all flashing on me too. What a scary afternoon that was for me.

For the record, I've had the Bosch wires from Autozone for more than a year and they've come off over and over again with no ill effects. They've been perfect for me and I recommend them to anyone looking to buy wires not in need of high end wires. Just for the record imo.
