#74657, "Takes 3 tries to start the car...."

For the past two days, everytime i start the car for the first time in the morning/early afternoon it takes three tries to get the car to start/idle. The first time it will die immediately, the second it will start but sound like its going to die, and the intake sucks like a mofo, and the third try it starts right up. Could this be a tps/iac issue? Whats going on here?

You havent messed with your fuel pump lately have you? I remember reading that lil o ring on top of the pump if punctured would take a few times to get the car started. Just throwing that out there.

i replaced my fuel pump a while ago, it just started to do this. My battery is brand new, and the alternator was tested when i bought the battery. It does sound fuel related..like the pump/relay doesnt catch on until the third try.

my car does this...actually it takes a long time to start...i have to crank it for a while.... i think my problem is that i removed the fuel pressure regulator for turbo and it doesnt hold fuel pressure anymore.... im not sure if your regulator could be going bad/vacuum line...or if its just idling like crap...if it starts alright but just idles bad, try the iac....hope that helps

its probably fuel pressure regulator, had the exact problem with my other car (neon) and replacing the fuel pressure regulator fixed it right away.

You can verify with a fuel pressure guage, check it at start up.

i seriously think mitsu replaced mine the last time i went in for some work. It looks brand new...could they have installed it incorrectly?

Also, ive been driving the car around lately after it sat for a month and it seems to be running better, but after a while the bogging/hesitation still comes around. Makes me think the spring in the fpr is faulty or loose

well i removed the vaccum line running from the fpr to the intake manny and tried to clean the vaccum port, then when trying to start the car it took longer than normal, maybe messing with the port on the intake manny messed something up? what is going on here? Also, the car runs ok but when i floor it, it will try to fall on its face, does this seem like a fpr problem?
