#74491, "Piston Ring or what? LOUD BANG!!!"

ok, yeah i feel pretty stupid too. I peeled out and kept going right till like 6800 and i was just getting ready to put the clutch in and i was easing off the gas and I hear a loud pop. My buddy heard it too and he was standing outside probably about 100 ft. away i think. What did I do? I was thinking maybe an axle but i doubt it, i could only think of piston ring. But why would it do that if the redline isn't until 7,000. COuld i have maybe just hit something? Netiher i nor my buddy saw anything come out behind the car. I didn't smell anything and oil is still fine? How can i check to see what happened?
Thanks,
Trey

PS: I'm dropping in another 420a in a week and a half that i been building for a while, but i was planning on selling this to someone. No problem to me really except i might not be gettin $500 for the engine

I don't suppose you have gauge face covers meant for an auto. You could have hit rev limits because if you have AT covers teh red line doesn't like up and the rpms are innaccurate.

You could have just had a back fire. If there's no signs of damage, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially since you'll be dropping a new engine in soon. Do a compression test if you are worried.

And if you broke and axel you'd hear BANG CLANG THUMP WHACK THUMP BANG CLANG....broken axels keep spinnin emoji

You probably had an intake or exhaust backfire of somekind. Intake backfires sound different. They're usually louder and scare the piss out of you cuz they come from the engine compartment.

Oh c'mon now.

You hit fuel cut. It pops. It's not serious.
