#74456, "Just got my car back from Satan ... now I have engine problems.. plz advise"

Hey Guys,

I just took my '95 GS into Satan for this recall:

"Safety Recall to fix or repair if needed, for lower lateral arm ball joints."

Car was running perfect before it went in, the minute I get in it after they worked on it over the weekend, my door is fucked up and the engine almost stalls everytime I start it. It also has no more "punch" like it used to. If I drive like normal at about 2-3k RPM's, my car gurgles, coughs and sputters and barely accelerates.

Example:

If I wanted to pass someone, I could drop down one gear and accelerate the car by increasing my pressure on the gas pedal. Now when I do this, the car just maintains about the same speed and coughs and sputters or sometimes it actually slows down.

Now, I thought they were only supposed to fix the lower lateral arm ball joints and not touch anything else, but now everything is fucked up.

If you guys have any idea of what it could be, please let me know.

Thanks

well we have the same problem..kinda. Check all wiring under the car, mainly the o2. They shouldnt have popped the hood for the recall, and if they did you need to return the car and threaten a lawsuit if they dont comply. Dont let the fuckers screw you over, if faced with a lawsuit they will go back and fix what they messed up...i had to do this with modern performance.

Along similar lines, you may also want to yank the cat and see if it's clogged (if you have one that is). If that's not the case, I'd definitely go after the O2 like ^^ mentioned.

Good luck and let us know what happens,

Andy

Oh yeah, I wasn't sure if they did this for everbody on here, but at my dealership they did something like a "27 point courtesy" check or something. So, I believe they did something to it that fucked it up.

Do you think it's worth it to take it back to the dealer or just check the o2 sensor myself? It's about an hour away and I'd have to haggle with them I'm sure. Anyone had any experience with/like this?

Thanks again!

call them, explain the situation and if they give you attitude, take it back and pitch a fit with them. Tell them they are at fault and they are expected to fix the problem.

I forgot to mention that my car is now blowing white smoke out the exhaust in addition to the problems mentioned above....

Today I took it back to Satan (hour drive) and the guy came out and looked at my engine at all of the sensors and said that "they all look intact and I do not see any marks from anyone touching them. We only did a visual inspection of the vehicle and we didn't touch it." Then I asked him how they checked the air filter and he opened up the airbox. So much for not touching the vehicle.

He looked at everything and said that his guys didn't touch the engine and just looked at everything. He said there was nothing he could do and that if I wanted them to try and diagnose the problem, I could by paying them $$$ per hour. Fuck that.

Anyway, there's not much I can do about this so I'm going to have to try and depend on 2gnt and chilton's to figure it out. What a fucking waste of 3 hours of my day plus fuel!

Thanks again for your advice guys and if you have anymore, please post it.

Thanks

Not sure how to find that out, but I don't think I do. If I knew a way to check, maybe I'd know for sure.

Pop the cap on your coolant overflow bottle. Stick your finger in it even if it looks okay and see if it feels greasy at all. emoji You might check to see how easily the hoses slip on and off of that cap too. When my HG went, the oil got into the coolant and turned that shit almost radioactive shit brown. To this day, the hoses will slip off due to the oil being in there almost a year ago.

Also, check your oil levels more frequently and do a compression test imo. My leak was more to the outside of the block than within, so my numbers seemed decent, but I was losing mad oil down the back of the block.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I'm sure they didn't touch it..... emoji The mechanics were prolly driving it around and beating the piss out of it. Regardless if you are still on the stock HG then it was going to happen anyway. Do a comp check, look in the coolant for a shiny film on top of the coolant (think oil and water how it makes the film on top...) and get ready to cuss a lot....lol
EDIT: Also BEER... lots and lots of BEER....

Thanks guys, I am pulling the Chilton's out and checking what you said to. If anyone notices this post and has more ideas, keep them coming please. The dealership was not any help at all.(As expected...)

The only recall I knew about was the one that I took it in for... are there more? Man, I had a bad feeling that something like this would happen if I took it to Satan. My car was running perfectly before I took it in to them and I just knew that when I picked it up it would be fucked up somehow. Seems to always happen when someone else touches my car.

Anyway, thanks again everyone!

Man I would be soo pissed. Why not call mitsu head office and let them know about your problem. Have your mileage recorded from before you brought it in and after. Also have your VIN ready, I am not sure the direct number but it has got to be floating around here somewhere. Don't let them dick you around, if you put up a big enough fight they will give in.

I was with my dad and we were late for a work site so I got rushed and was not able to record my mileage before leaving. That sucks IMO.

By the way, I don't see any leaks under the hood. The problem seems to be getting worse. I checked the coolant and it doesn't have any oil slick or brown look to it.

I want to say that when I travel next to a cement wall or something I can hear the sound from the back and it almost sounds like some sort of metal scratching or a maybe air escaping...not sure if it's even a real sound because it's hard to reproduce it.

I checked under the car in the rear while it was running and had my g/f give it a little gas in neutral. When it "cackles" and coughs (the exhaust) the muffler jumps forward and back about .5-1 inch. I don't know if that's normal. It seems like it's getting back pressure or something of that nature.

I am no mechanical genius, I am just trying to observe whatever I can to see if anyone has any ideas. This weekend I will be taking it up to one of my mechanic friends and he's going to look at it while I'm working in my hometown over the weekend. He is the one who helped rebuild part of my engine for me and is very good. One of the few people I trust with my car.

Got off track.... if anyone has anymore ideas, let me know please.

Thanks again for all of the help you guys! emoji

"Get yourself a MLS HG and I would get new head bolts. Take about 4 hours today and get her done."

How much does all of that usually cost and where do you have to get it from? Satan again??? emoji

I don't see any oil leaks, but I haven't gone through it thoroughly. On my 27 point analysis thing they did, they mentioned something about some oil leaking, but that's all they did was "mention" it. I will double check the report and see what I can find.

BTW...the headgasket was replaced at 70k or 80k miles...so it only has about 20-30k on the current HG.

I'm wondering if some of the piping or whatever under the car could've been damaged when they had it on the lift at Satan. They admitted that with it being on the lift, the damage to the door was probably caused by the weight shifting from the wheels to the frame or something and that the damage from the wreck that it was in before I got my car made the door do that. I don't see why they couldn't at least try to fix the door b/c it was fine when I brought it in.

Umm... let's see... when I accelerate the car, if I give it a lot of gas (like normal) it coughs and stutters. The only way you can accelerate is by VERY slowly pressing on the gas pedal and letting it build up speed. The car is SOOOO slow now and even when I try to accelerate fast POS cars look like jets flying past me.

Wow, I'm about to crash. Anyone got any ideas? I'm wondering about the Cat...

Ok, TIA!
