#74273, "Engine rebuild costs..questions"

Hey guys, i just need a few questions answered..i havent had time to do anything with my rebuild except for order my parts. I need to know estimates on have my block dipped/honed, my head pressure tested/deck tested, and having a crank drilled and tapped where the bolt goes.

Also, when i rebuild the motor..i bought a 750lb motor stand and i wanted to know if i should assemble EVERYTHING down to the timing belt before the install.

Another thing, does our motor have a knock sensor? If so, that, the crank angle, and oil sending unit are the last things to be replaced before the motor is new, wheres the cheapest place to find them? I have so much on my mind and i cant remember anything else, please help me out and i'll have more questions to come. THANKS

i dunno about honing a block, but the local machine shop here its 30 bucks to bore, and 70 to hottank. i dunno about head testing. i gave them my head with springs and valves, and when i picked it up it was 175. 35 for decking and 140 for 3 angle valve job, and dis/reassembly of the head. and for drilling a tapping. you can prolly do that your self. or a machien shop might charge around 30 bucks maybe. i had a broken stud in my head when i dropped it off, and they took it out with no charge.

ya, make sure the timing is good before you drop the engine in.
i found that w/out the a a/c compressor, its a shit load easyer to drop the engine back in. intake manifold and all that on the head.

Hm I was allways under the impression of machine shops costing so much more.

Definately time it on the stand. It will be a pain in the neck in the engine bay. And, as mentioned, Bob Kise is a great OEM replacement part resource. Def. get in touch with him.
