I have a 1997 Mistubishi Eclipse gs with a 420a motor, with 87,000 miles on it... i want a turbo in my car i was thinking about getting the star turbo kit but i know for a fact it would blow my engine...So i wanted to get a turbo engine... get a 4g63 turbo engine and put it in my 2g eclipse, and take out the 420a... is that possible
any advice on what i should do if thats not possible?
If it does work my plan is to swap the 4g63 turbo engine...then the following
#1 get a greddy bov to get the phhhssss sound #2 get a greddy intercooler, or any FMIC thats good #3 replace the existing turbo

No.
1)Why would a turbo kit blow your engine? 2)With the money you would have used to do the swap, you could have bought another car that is already turbo.

the 4g63 swap would cost somewhere between 4-6k. thats alot of modding on your 420a if you ask me. boosted 420as can be alot faster than GSTs anyways. =)

it will cost me 2400 to get the rebuilt 4g63 engine.. and then he takes my engien so it would probably go down to about 1500...i have a friend that is a mechanic and went to school for car engines ect.. so he will not charge me that much to have it done...
i have 87,000 on my gs... i have new head gasket and timing belt.. you dont think if i get the stage 2 star turbo kit i wont blow my engine??

welcome to the boards, but why dont ya search a bit and see all the negativeness described in this subject. No a stage 1 or 2 from star or hahn wont blow your engine unless you do something stupid to it, they wouldnt sell it if it would. Normally a good psi to run on stock internals 9:6:1 compression, is 7-8psi safely, we have a very very strong crank and fairly strong other internals stock, so the 7-8psi is fine. You'll save about 2grand and be faster than a stock 4g63. There are soooo many topics discussed with this, searching and finding an answer should be no prob.. g'luck

Seriously think about before you do it. You dont only have to change the motor, but the motor mounts because its mounts opposite of our motors, the transmission, ECU and a wide variety other things. It would be a LOT better and Easier to either get a HRC or Star Turbo kit, Rebuild your motor with the upgraded pistons, rods etc. Not to mention, if you do that work on the car and install a stock turbo (14b I think it is) you would be wanting to upgrade turbos anyway and wind up spending more cash to get the same if not less performance that you can get by just adding an HRC or Star kit. However if you are dead set on it, Read the ^^^ post and decide for yourself. IMO you would be a lot happier getting the kit.

ok so say i go with the turbo kit ether hahns or star... would i be able to run it stock... or would i have to get new pistons and other internals?? which can cost alot of money!!

It's not as easy as just getting the rebuilt motor for $2400 and dropping it in. You also need a tranny, ecu, guage cluster, engine rewire / replace harness, motor mount fabrication, axles, poeeible suspention modification, then factor in your plan to get greddy everything and upgrade your turbo. How much money do you think you are up to now? Also did your friend go to school for creating custom parts and custom fabing an entire engine bay? This swap is very complicated even for professionals who work with these cars all the time. First let me say a stock kit(kept at the proper boost levels and tuned properly) will not blow your engine as long as it is in good working order right now. Secondly, by the time you get all this swapped in and then upgrade the turbo parts you could have easily turbo'd and rebuilt your engine. If your friend is a mechanic then he should be able to hook you up and rebuild your 420a for you at a really good price. Instead of spending that 2400 on a rebuilt engine, spend it on a low mileage used turbo kit, or put it twards a new one and you are almost there. Then later on you spend another 2-3k rebuilding (depending on the parts you use) and for the same 4-6k you have a rebuilt 420a that will hold much more power than that 4g63, and you already have your upgraded turbo kit. Does that make sence???
