#73789, "Injectors and tuning and valves"

I am getting my 420A turbo'd. i have already sent off the head and received it back from Gude. I did the whole head performance package. The turbo kit is being made by Majestic Turbo. Je Pistons, Eagle Rods. What would be the advantages of adding Ferrea SS valves, titanium springs and retainers, what do they do and what do they prevent from happening? Also, i am hoping to run 12psi around town and maybe 16psi at the track. What is the biggest injectors i can run without a piggyback fuel controller? I don't know how to tune them. What fuel controllers do u guys reccomend and how to tune or how much i can expect to pay for a tune. I have a Walbro 255lph fuel pump and an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. Can my injectors handle this? What will happen to them if I turn up the boost? I know it's a lot of questions but all help would be appreciated.

I've heard Gude is a lush who does lackluster work, but you've already spent the dough, so Gude luck there. LOL /slaps knee

Who's that? Sounds vaguely familiar. What kind of manifold are they using? How are the welds? What size turbo? Trim? FMIC? SMIC? Piping ID? Details imo.

SS stays cleaner as far as I believe and maintains its tolerances better over the long haul than stock components. Just like how a SS exhaust system won't rust/corrode or whatever. Ti springs and retainers are only better than other quality aftermarket springs/retainers in that they lower the weight of the moving parts in the head and allow the engine to breathe eaiser. Springs/retainers are especially needed with more aggressive cams to prevent the stock springs from binding when the valves are pushed down farther, they also snap the valve back faster so it doesn't "float" and not fully close or open. Which is bad.

This kind of depends on the size/trim of your turbo imo. emoji

How do you know you need the biggest injectors you can run without a piggy back? Are you using the biggest turbo you can find to cram more air into the engine than most people?

Depends on your set up in the end. I think most people can make do with a SAFC2 for simple adjustments here and there. If you're going mad dog with the turbo, you may want to consider looking upscale like eManage or something. It won't be cheap, and I think if you're not confident that you can tune it yourself, you may be looking to get yourself in over your head and drown in broken DSM parts.

Yes. As far as I know.

If you turn up the boost and add more air than your injectors are capable of matching with fuel for the stoichometric rate, you will max them out, go lean, and blow the welds on your intake. Then me and the mad scientist here will have to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried. emoji It's all about watching your A/F and EGTs.

You're telling me! Look how many times I had to copy and paste to make this post! JEEbus! Serioulsy though, do0d. We're glad to have you here and it sounds like you're on your way to building a beast, but keep in mind that buying the biggest or highest flowing or whatever isn't always best. Since you're going turbo, you can start middle of the road and upgrade as you get used to tuning it. With a setup like the one it sounds like you're looking to build, you better not be installing one of those blinky light A/Fs from APC either. Themore extreme you build your engine, the more critical tracking the vitals becomes. Don't drop big bucks on cool parts and then skimp on the really important stuff. Spend some time searching on different subjects in the turbo forum and you'll find you get to be pretty farking smart about your car thanks to this place.
