#73544, "humm.. HIGHER comp #'s than last time, white & black smoke...???"

well, what gives with this? Started gettin freaked in the past week or two cause i noticed some occasional random white smoke puffs from the exhaust when i stopped or down shifted (i think). i was also told i was smokin after i got on it, but that smoke was black (i am running pretty rich i think).
Okay so, 880 miles on total rebuild, total seal rings, 8.6:1 pistons, PCV valve removed. 1st comp check after rebuild, 185-190-185-190.
Did another a few hundred miles later, got 185-190-175-190.

Did one today 200-205-200-200!!???

as far as i remember all were under the same circumstances, normal engine temp, etc.

So... black smoke is running rich, right? occasional white is...????
and the higher comp #'s means my rings are set?

Ideas, thoughts?

Try running MCCC (Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner) and seeing what that does for compression. It is possible that you are coking up nasty shit in the combustion chamber that is filling up some space and increasing the static compression ratio...

Pfttttttth... You don't need anybody else. Think about it, if your compression numbers are going up, then the final volume in your combustion chamber is lower then it was, the cylinder volume is higher at BDC, or you are not blowing by as much as you were. Since the latter is improbable, the middle is impossible, and the former is most likely, I would say that something is taking up space in your combustion chamber.

Here's my guess... valve stem seals. Mind you, it could also be a turbo blowing oil into the intake stream, but my guess is intake valve stem seals, or, maybe valve guides. I have a friend who had a 1G head built for his 2G, and the machinist rebuilt everything, but left the original valve guides. He had the same symptoms, only he was getting a LOT of knock. Turns out that he had more then 1/8" of coked oil on his pistons. The cause of this was the head having been trashed by a broken timing belt. The valves took out the bronze guides when they bent, and they were ALL cracked.

So, give it a look-see if you dare.
