My car is very sick. I own a 96 talon, esi model.Ok, I am going to start from the begining. About a 2 months ago my car to studder whenever i started off and acceratled. I figured it was just because I was still learning standard. But as time went on, it began doing that in every gear whenever it reached 2 rmps and it would start to studder whenever i pushed in the gas. About two weeks ago, I asked my father what it could be and he said probably either the spark plugs weren't that great or the spark plug wires. My friend hooked me up with the wires and I bought bosch spark plugs. Still didn't fix it. So last week my friend was driving the car and i told him to pull over, because my car was running really rough. I put my hand on the back of the muffler to make sure that the exaust was holding pressure and this seem to make it even rougher. I went back into my car and reved the rmps a bit. The car still ran rough. I shut off the car and tried to start it but it wouldnt start. I tried a second time and finally after 3 or 4 seconds it started but after a second of running there was this noise, kinda like a whinding shut down nosie underneath the car.

The car stalled and shut off. I started it up again and drove it back to my fathers. The exaust smelled really bad and after a little while, it ran fine. My father drove the car later that night and said that the studdering in acceraltion was gone. After a week of driving normally it came back.

Yesterday i drove my car about 40 miles to leominster mass. When i reached my girlfriends house, the car ran really bad. Now it wasn't studdering, there was alot of hesitation when i was pushing in the gas and the car felt like something was holding it back. Then something just went pop but the car still ran but was having a hard time acceration. It popped another three times. It popped right around 3 or 4 rmps. It came from the front of the car.

I do have an idea what is wrong with my car. I checked the codes and from what my friend tells me I have a missing 02 senser, the one that connects to the cat. converter, a ingiation problem and cloudy vacum lines.

Even with those missing, should the car be doing that? Maybe I need a new cat converter? Thanks for listening and any advice will help, thanks.

Have you replaced the coil pack?

What is the gap on the plugs?

I have a coil pack that my friend gave me. I am going to install that tonight or tomorrow. I don't know the gap size.

really? well when we took out the old plugs, they weren't bad at all.

Dunno, if it'll help, when my car was doing that, It ended up being a vaccum hose, it was cracked, and kinda broke completly off.

try replacing your front o2 sensor and doing the rear o2 sensor mod, and do a good tune up and you should be good to go

hmm...ok, so replacing both o2 sensers and the vaccum hose should stop that problem? Alright, i'll try it. Thank you. My father is just waiting for the day I sell this car since it has a problem every day...a qoute he loves to say "Your car is the biggest pain in my ***" . Hopefully this solves the problem. I just hope it isn't my exaust because trying to get those bolts off are going to be a long and painful process.

my car did this, and after i replaced it ran fine ever since.

just my 2c tho

a) your dad is a smart man, i would have suggested the ignition system first as well.

b) you are a smart n00b. please keep that up. dont worry much about spelling, i cant spell worth a damn either.

c) you can say bad words here...no need to "bleep" them, lol.

d) before you spend uber dollars on O2 sensor(s), replace (or at least patch) the vac lines that are leaking. i would also suggest checkign out the temperature coolant sensor (run a search...theres a recent thread on this by justin99rs....search for "fuck" and "shoot" in the title, lol). that would explain your strange fuel delivery.

thanks guys. Yeah my father is a very smart man. The first day I registered my car and brought it out for its first drive around town, not even five miles and the transmission blew apart all over the road. He stuck his hand underneath the car and pulled it back with transmission fluild all over his arm. He was like "Your not going anywhere for a long time"

yeah, then a month later we found a transmission for about 800$ from a 99 eclipse and my father was like "I think I can get that tranny in, without lifting the engine" He put the car on ramps, after jacking each side of the car and placing the ramps underneath the front tires he unbolted the battery box, air filter, and all the transmission mounts (Let me tell you, that back fucking mount to that tranny is the worse place ever to have a transmission mount. That was the bitch of them all.) He got the old tranny out and then took the new tranny, placed it on a garage jack and brought it from underneath the car and aligned it to the engine... He's a god at times. although, it took a wrench to fall off the motor and hit him in the head to push him over the edge and get mad at the car, pushing the transmission into place. I have never heard a man scream so many swears in a single setence.

That is why he hates the car. I will swap that coil pack and fix the vaccum hose and get back to you guys. Thanks again.
