Ok, I forgot to ask this so I started another thread to ask. When my speed sensor went out, my car would jump rpm's and my 5th gear would pop out. Is that normal? It didnt do it before, that I can remember.

Fifth popping out, probably not..

But the RPM wobble, yeah. The VSS provides some sort of feedback to the idle air motor, so it'll do goofy shit without it.

so what would cause the 5th gear to pop out?? It doesnt do it in any other gear. Is the car still safe to drive?? If so I guess I am going to have to live without a speedo (sigh)

Still safe, I would guess, but annoying.

I've heard that low tranny fluid can cause your fifth gear from popping out. Well, either that , possible issues with your shifter assembly, or your tranny requiring some work. I've had fifth pop out on me just once before.

someone else had that problem on this board about popping out of 5th....never heard back what was wrong, i remember him bungeeing the shifter into 5th on the highway. I have the same problem with 3rd gear in mine...when cruising steady on and off the gas 3rd will pop out. under hard accell 3rd is fine. Everyone i have talked to told me its probably the dog gears going bad. I really dont know much about trannys other than the basics so thats kinda what i figured.

Good luck with it

I can deal with 5th popping out, it is full of tranny fluid. i guess i can deal with the rpms jumping up and down as well.

does your car give you problems while driving? My rpm's jump when I am going down the interstate and it seems like it is going to stall. No CEL though, suprisingly.

no problems other then when I'm coming to stop and its in gear it wants to stall even with the clutch pushed in. All I do is when I'm coming to stop I just put it neutral and push the clutch in. I been doing this a whole yr now and so used to it now that I do it automatically when I'm stopping.

i have noticed that mine only does it when the car gets warm. then it wacks out and starts "bogging" down. I am just going to use the car to go to and from work and thats pretty much it.
