sounds like its backfiring out of the intake. Any CEL's? Whens the last time you did a tune up? I had something similar happen once. It was plug wires. I also got a CEL though.

when you mean "checking wires" how did you go about this? if they just "look" ok, that wont suffice. and you need to check all plugs and all wires....cuz its usually the ones you miss that are causing the problems. look at all the plugs, if they need replacing, do so...if that dosent solve your problems, replace your plug wires, if that dosent solve it replace the coil pack.

Isn't intake backfire caused by lean mixture?

All the plugs and wires were replaced about a month ago, I removed them, and they all look brand new. I forgot to mention that also with the loud popping noise, the car doesnt accelerate until it reaches 2500 rpms. It sort of bogs down, pops, bogs until it reaches 2500, then it seems fine. When it pops, theres a mild scent inside the car, resembles a fuel smell but i'm not positive because it is such a weak smell. Is the fuel filter a possibility?

thanks again
