#72756, "Check engine light"

Hey guys
I went to get my car emission tested today and it failed.

They are thinking it's the oxygen sensor..but they want to know why the check engine light is on.
I think it's cuz I've got no speed sensor in...but after they did the test the light went off till I turned onto my street.

So far I've dont the test where you turn the igniton on, off, on off, on.
I got 1 flash, pause, 2 flashes, pause, 5 flashes pause 5 flashes puse 5 flashes pause.

Can anyone tell me what these all mean?
I'm guessing the three 5 flashes are speed sensor...

Thanks guys

12 is a bullshit code (battery disconnected in the last 50 cycles, it's always there) and 55 is end of codes. You're probably mis counting. 23 is intake air temp sensor out of range, 32 is the EGR solenoid circuit.

Look on the main site -> sections -> info&specs. The code list (CEL, P code, MUT2 code) and the meanings are all there.

they are saying you are miscounting b/c it only flashes 5-5 once, not twice, if you are seeing anything after the initial 5-5, then you are miscounting the first 5's, it is probably a 2-3 or something, but not 5-5 and 5-5 again. For your 12 code, sounds stupid but disconnecting the battery for about 30+ seconds always has cleared it for me, I know that sounds dumb b/c that is the reason the light is on, but I dont know, just my .02, g'luck

If it's going 1-2, 1-5, 5-5: the 1-5 code is no vehicle speed sensor signal.

i'm getting the egr one (32 I believe), do I care? nope. then again i haven't gotten a letter for emissions yet.

but for me i just have to put the hose back on (teeny tiny hose connecting solenoid to valve I removed and capped ends).

why would no speed sensor cause a CEL to appear and then dissappear? did you count right? I know my 32 does that (3+2=5 possibly)
