Ok...Last night I was thinking that I had a rod about to go, though after listening to it today it sounds like a valve knocking...
now I took the valve pan off and all i see is the cams....
So are the valves located under the head? (pardon my noobness)

If thats the case then i have to take off the:
intake
exhaust
and timing?

any ideas? emoji
...well any ideas that doesnt involve a 5 gallon jug of gas, a road flare, and a big hill...

dood...theres a few concerns i have here. 1, its called a valve cover, not a valve pan emoji, also...how does a valve knock? also, the 'ticking' might just be a flat lifter but doesnt seem like you know enough about the head to tackle this job. you need to get the cams out so yea, you have to take off the timing belt. do you know how to put one back on properly? i mean...we can walk you through this but it sounds to me like you're in way over your n00b head (no offense at all, im just lookin out for you and dont want to see you get owned)

let us know what you want to do

yea yea yea...i messed up on some terms emoji

I know what the parts are...just get the wording mixed up.

Its just been awhile since i have done anything like this.
in 2000 i took the engine out of my camaro, but like i said its been awhile.

I did a search and found a thread about taking the head off.

basically I just need to know the basics of doing it and I'm sure of my ability to handle it.

and if i somehow F*** something up... well then that just part of the learning curve. emoji

Well Like ^^^ said, it may just be tapping/ticking that could just be a lifter and the Valves are located under your cams. So many possibilities that its hard to tell with just what you said. Hope its just a simple lifter issue for you and not a spun rod bearing or rod knock. Good luck

well...after reading a few posts on the work involved...and factoring in the fact that im lazy.

I think I am gonna tow it to the mitsu dealer or someplace equally equiped in doing it.

Sad thing is.. I just had a head gasket put on it 1.5 months ago...though im thinking the shop that did it didnt do that great of a job.

After i got it back i had to change a bunch of hoses and put hose clamps on alot of things....

Did you pull the crankcase cover (AKA oil pan emoji ) and check the rod bearings? That is an easy thing to check. Drain the oil, pull the downpipe, and pull all of the M6 X 1.0 bolts. The pan will drop, and you can check for up and down play in the rods. If you can't tell if there is play, there are 2 bolts per rod to remove to check. A spun/galled bearing will not be smooth, but rather, will be pitted and scratched.

Best of luck.

I'm not thinking it is anything in the lower end, the noise seems to be coming from right underneath the head under cylinder 1. I am wanting to take the head off and see.....I was gonna take it in, but my cash flow at the moment says to do it myself. So I am trying to talk myself into going out there and start yanking stuff emoji

I'd start with a compression test. And go from there.

Since the valve ciover is off, push down on the lifters (follow the rocker arms from the cam lober to the lifter, inside the two inner rails inside the head). Push down on each lifter and see if there's any movement. A good lifter shouldn't compress.

Ok make sure to BUY a Chiltons....get ziplock bags and a sharpie to mark each bag with individual contents of each valve (no, no mix and match)...make sure all the torque of the bolts is RIGHT ON to specs (do you even have a TQ wrench??? if not time to stop by your local Tool distribuitor) BTW the aluminum head strips threads really easy.....be careful
