i just put my head together... i didnt blead the oil out of the lifters....im not sure if i need to or not on the 420a...i know you have to, and its pretty simple on the 4g63... do we just stick them in like they came out? theres no travel in the lifters.....also, do they really need to be in the exact same place as when they came out? i kind of mixed all of mine together and i dont remember where they went...in the manual, it says to put them in the same place as you took them out... i didnt think it mattered for the lifters.... thanks doug

I've had my head off about 3 times over the past year and a half, I never bled the lifters or put them in exact locations and I haven't run into any problems. You SHOULD be fine, or maybe I'm just really lucky.
Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

I didn't bleed mine or anything, but I did make sure that I put them back in at the same spot. I guess it's just a precaution in case things are wearing at all you get it all back the way it was. Next time lay out a piece of cardboard and kinda lay everything out the way it looks in the head, then it won't get all mixed up.

yeah, i just never thought that the lifters were anything to worry about having in the exact position....i didnt interchange the caps or anything.... i was just hoping that with the lifters having oil in them, they werent going to keep the valve from comming all the way up and bending the valves....but they should be fine...thanks doug

When you put in new lifters you are supposed to pre soak them in oil anyhow, so I'd say you're fine.
