Hi, I wondering if anyone here could give me some ideas as to what is wrong with my eclipse. recently I blew the head gasket on it and I had it repaired, but now it burns oil through the exhaust. when im driving I cant really notice it burning oil, but if i am stopped for a while It will smoke out who ever is behind me once i hit the gas. I was thinking it was the piston rings, but it doesnt seem to do it except when im stopped or every now and then when im above 4000 rpms the engine will make a rattle sound and it will spit out a puff of oil smoke. any ideas would be helpful.

it really could be any number of things from piston rings, to the ring lands to a bad valve seal...best place to start would be to do a compression check..that will help determine if its the rings or rung lands.

if it smokes when you first start the car or during idle it seems to be the valve seals or the rings, rings couldve been damaged when you blew the head gasket.

it doesnt really start to smoke till it warms up, I have never seen it smoke when i first start it...always when im sitting...or the occasional noise then smoke ball when im accelerating.
