So im driving along, and my car starts backfiring and is being sluggish. More gas i give it, the quicker the RPMS drop and the car dies. I cant go past 20-25 mph, and cant make it up hills (my driveway is slightly inclined- barely made it). I have code 21. Also, the car is smoking from the engine bay. code 21 is O2 sensor related. Is this a symptom of a bad 02? also, what would cause the smoking? my air/fuel gauge was pinned at lean, sometimes not even showing any led's. I also failed emissions today (3 hours before this) because my ECU didnt send a signal to the OBD2 tester (no sniffer test- all electronic). Dont know if that has anything to do with it.

Have you tried to reset your ECU? A crapped out 02 could give you faulty readings. Let us know what steps you've taken so we can better help you. Goodluck.

Cut the A/F gauge wiring at the sensor (or ECU). See if that fixes anything. If the A/F gauge wire coming from the O2 sensor output grounds out against the chassis, you will see these exact problems. This exact scenario happened to me when I used old wire to install my A/F gauge. The wire wore through and grounded out against the body. The car nearly died, had 0 power, CEL 21, and A/F full lean.
