They are shit. I didn't think at $180 AEM was worth it until I bought one. My $45 shipped intake off of eGay fell apart after a year. And the filters SUCK. The filters are more restrictive than a stock paper filter.

I kinda like my AEM CAI myself. Should be getting a nice open element green filter soon.

just cut up the factory airbox, it works almost as well and is free. pop off the front piece (the part that sits IN FRONT of the filter) and cut a bunch of holes in it, making sure to cut of the resonator that hangs below the box. i used a dremel to cut large rectangles in in, making sure that the piece was still structurally sound. if you dont have the money to buy a nice (and well made) intake, its a great solution.

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:

Everything you hear about intakes on an NA application with little supporting mods is pretty much opinion.

Get what you want. Unless someone posts dyno runs with nothing but intake changes then I don't see any reason to not get one off of ebay. We're talking about 1-3 whp at best.

its funnny, because the consensus at DTMPower is that cheap ebay intakes are perfectly fine on BMW's ... and that buying JimC/very expensive/high end intakes is a waste of money ... lol

makes me think you're just not installing the ebay intakes properly?

not every car is the same. different cars get different results from different products. if every car was the same, we would see a huge gains from an intake/exhaust combo like a supra does but we are a completely different engine so what will give huge gains on a 2jz wont on a 420a.

well sure... maybe the layout is different... i think these 3 series intakes in particular are just 6" long 90* bends so theres a lot of room for error.. heh

You get what you pay for...but a cold air intake doesn't take alot of brain power to make since its just some mandrel bent tubing and couplers. I bought one and it didn't fit right so I had to cut up some sections and modify it. Man my car sounds mean now though...definite increase in power as well.

98 RS M/T - CAI w/K&N Filter - AFX udp - 2.5" Catback Exhuast - Symborski Shift Kit - Energy Suspension Inserts -
17" wheels & tires - Rear Disc Conversion - and now 1 broken motor mount!!!!

Why not get something nice?? I have an Iceman CAI, when I lost my filter I bought a cheap "no name" short ram..... It was worthless. It seemed like I had better low RPM response, but lost any top end. When I bought the ReWorks filter I put the Iceman back on and love the sound and mid-upper RPM pull ..... Granted any gain if at all was minimal (if not all in my head) but I couldnt be happier with the Iceman..... Plus it comes right to the opening in the FE...... For $200 bones 4 years ago it was a good investment. Its half dozen one, six the other.......
