I have a problem with my engine right now so I am going to break it down and start from scratch. I want the most power for a reasonable price. My engine is making a clicking noise constantly and hesitates until 4500 rpm. Then the clicking is faster with higher rpm. Any idea what the problem is???

maybe rod knock or lifter tick, its to hard to tell with your description.

and if you want to make a good amount of power (above 200hp) you're going to need either some nitrous or a turbo

use the search though theres all kinds of good info in there emoji

.020 is the typical overbore to clean up the cylinder walls to drop in some forged pistons like some JE 8:8's or some CP's. you dont want to rip out the bores to much and make the cylinder walls to thin, .020 should be fine.

To make the most power for the least amount of money, you're going to want to install a turbo. Find yourself a rebuild kit if you're handy with the tools, or order one premade from one of the vendors that adverise here. Then pick up a turbo system from HRC or Star (there are others too) and bolt it on and for just under $6000 you shoudl be approaching 300hp and have the major mods out of the way.

Welcome btw!

http://www.nochoads.org/files/

That is the link from Dino's sig. I downloaded the overhaul manual, printed it and put it in a three ring binder. I've read it front to back about 10 times. Use that and get a Chilton's or a Hayne's manual. That should give you plenty of info you need if you are going to do a rebuild.

stock valves will die a serious death at anything over a 75 shot imo, you'd need some valvetrain upgrades in order to run a 'hefty shot of nitrous'

you'd be surprised what kind of power numbers you'd see with a built shortblock --pistons, rods, bearings--) and a 16g turbo from HRC

money well spent imo, and you have a very workable platform

10.5:1 CR rebuild (inlcuding machining): $1500
lightly built head with mild porting: -- $ 800
used NO2 system from the swap meet: ---- $ 200
TOTAL:---------------------------------- $2500

Running a hi-comp 150 shot on unsuspecting turbo guys: priceless.

*150 shot being optimistic due to lack of more thourough research of the subject.

I'm Curious....do you have anything loose in the engine compartment??? I thought I had a bent valve or something when I heard some knocking one day but it was only the underside of the heatshield banging against the manifold so I removed it and problem was solved. Just a suggestion....
