I have been witness to people constructing their own wires several times. What I am wondering is if it is feasible to buy sparkplug boots minus the wire and just make your own? The process isn't a big deal I just wonder if anyone knows where to get the parts to do this.

If you are using the stock coil pack or one that fits in the stock location, buy premade wires. They use boots made specifically for us and the wires are the perfect length.

I will be making custom wires for my Tec 3 ignition. I bought a 4cyl custom wire set from MSD and will be reusing my previous MSD premade spark plug boots for a perfect fit. I also have to use a 90 degree GM style connector on the coil pack.

If you decide to use a custom set, the spark plug boots will allow water into the well, will be hard to take off once installed(pull on the wire itself), or may not have the correct connector for the coil pack. These are just a few things to consider when buying a set.

Also the custom sets usually cost more than our short wire premade sets for our car. You can pick up a premade MSD set for roughly $35. I think I paid roughly $60 for the custom set.

Yes custom wires are more expensive. Taylor ignition makes most custom sets but i am not sure if they make a set for our cars. For reference the Taylor 10mm 409 race wires i put on my 69 superbee cost 109.00. granted these are v8 wires the stock one cost about 30.00. you may need to buy the crimping tool if you want tomake yor own.

I've made MSD wires, yes to do it right you will need the crimp tool, beside the tool is just plain cool and fun to use.

But unless you have a speial coil set up, go with premade.

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I was wondering was mostly due to the fact that our wires are so short in comparison to alot of other wires for the same price. I have access to any tools I would need to crimp the terminals. I just didn't know if the boots could be bought seperately.
