Instead of using the Mopar gasket or making your own from that cheap ass paper shit at the parts store, couldn't you just use RTV of some sort?

I know that if it were designed to use that, they would have used it in the first place, but considering what the gasket is there for, it seems like it really wouldn't matter.

Just curious. Someone asked me about it the other day and I really can't see any reason why you couldn't use RTV, but that the gasket would be best (even though once you have the TB ported etc, you don't really have any reason to remove it afterwards).

Call me crazy, but I don't even have a gasket in there...haven't for over a year and I've never had any idle issues. As long as it's torqued on there correctly and the mating surfaces are clean there shouldn't be any issues. I'd assume you could use RTV though.

I use RTV on all the intake manifold gasket surfaces.

I don't use the paper gasket...I just use black SVT silicon. IMO using the SVT seems like it would create a better seal than a piece of cardboard.

i used RTV black silicone, and it works awesome, just don't spread it too thick, the only thing that sucks is when trying to remove your TB, it's a pain in the ass since it's kinda strong. sometimes i had to hammer it out with a flathead screwdriver. i have a Jeep TB so what i use now is 3 layers of that gasket maker sheet. it seals real well.

Yeah RTV is the shit. Another nice trick is to put you a really really thin bead on there and bolt the throttle body up but only enough to squash the RTV. Let it dry overnight and tightning down in the morning and you got a nice gasket. Works great on oil pans and what not.

I just use oem gaskets for the most part to make sure I dont do the job twice But I use different kinds of RTV on my older cars.

i use the oenm gaskets and when one leaks, rtv saves the day. i have every single kind of rtv too the rtv grey works dank on oil and the black shit works wonders on the intake

Too bad I wasn' aware of this a few months ago. My IAC was messed up so I took my TB off and messed up the gasket. So I grabbed some gasket maker and used a pencil to do impressions on te paper ad cut them out. Works great though I must say.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.

RTV red is the best IMO. I think its the highest heat rating. I used it on all my exhaust stuff. =)

yeah but that's for high temp stuff, but it is good stuff, i've used it on my exhaust manifold, and it seals awesome, i use that instead of the crappy manifold gasket and it's been working better. i no longer get exhuast leaks at full boost.
