LAST EDITED ON 13-Nov-01 AT 11:17 AM (PST)

Manual:

Some people swear up and down it's an NV-T350, but that's not the Mitsu part number. It's made by New Venture Gear, but the mitsu/DSM part number is F5MC1, i believe. look in the tech/service manuals.

Auto: F4AC1

Ya know what? So do both of mine emoji

That's not the part number. The tranny internals are made by New Venture Gear, they make most Chrysler trannies (Mostly Jeep stuff) which is where that comes from.

So can we steal parts from jeep tranny's to change our gear ratios?

Probably. Either that, or you can likely order the parts direct from New Venture Gear. Several of my co workers as well as both my mother and stepfather are Jeep'ers, and i gather that there is pretty good aftermarket support for the New Venture stuff.

Look into it. Let us know..

Dude, it'll work. That has nothing to do with the tranny (even tho the neon r/t tranny is internally identical to ours.)

That's just linkage.. which should be the same. Buy the thing already.

I suspect the neon short shifter will not fit more due to dash design. Ever see how a neon shifter sits? Just buy the one made for the eclipse. All Eclipses have the same shifter. As for the tranny, it is the NV-T350 but the bellhousing is not the exact same as the Neon. Darkone is right in saying the internals are the same but the part is modified for mitsu use. For different gears, I do know you can use the gears from the SOHC, but these are a 3.55 vs our 3.94 so not really good for performance if you are all motor. If you are turbo and find yourself spinning a lot it could be of some use though.

I just want to get down the track faster. 1st gear seems really slow to me and then finally 2nd and 3rd seem a little better. I want to be faster off the line and down the whole 1/4 mile.

I have tried 4,000 but thats too much wheel spin. I dropped it to 3,000 and I am still spinning with 2.4 60' times. I am probably going to the track tonight and I am going to try slipping the clutch a little more to see if I can improve my 60' times. I still have shitty tires up front but I should be getting grippy tires soon so that should help too.

Try launching at 4k rpm on good tires, but do not give it full throttle until it hooks up. Try mid throttle and playing with it until you get traction. Once it hooks up nail it.

Well I am going to the track tonight so I'll see what I can do on these SHITTY tires. I just have to make sure not to dump the clutch because the stage 3 grabs right away and the tires break loose.
