#70047, "Rebuild..what to do..."

Im picking up a spare motor in a week and im starting to debate on what to do exactly. So far ive come up with this...block overbore of .020 with oversized stock compression pistons with my stock rods and crank. My head is milled .050 and i figure with the higher compression from that i wouldnt need better pistons. I have fidanza gears, af/x udp, aem cold air, gst cat back, gutted cat, and a few other little things, and im really not going for a super car, i just want something with decent pep. I was also thinking about a 55mm tb as a slight upgrade. So with all of that said, do you guys have any other suggestions? Again, im not looking to drop a ton of money(i.e. je pistons etc)

Well, you really don't have a lot of room on their for other suggestions based on your criteria.

There's that dude with the esi that had crane cams, ss vavles, afx computer who beat the gst, but that path will take money.

I would suggest the afx ecu but I am unsure how that will react to your milled head. The 55mm tb will help.

IMO, just save for boost; even at 5 psi, you'll love the extra "pep."

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

im a 95, the afx computer wont work. Also, ive beaten a fwd talon tsi through third gear, only to be passed but i can still say i beat a tsi:)
Anyways, im thinking about crane 16's also. What kind of hp could i be looking at with this setup?(yes i know this is a nooB question, but im allowed at least two a week)

Why dont you want to go with some new rods/bearings?

If i were you i would concentrate my time money and effort in one place at a time.

I don't have a lot of input but maybe a crankscraper would be a good idea....they're only 50 bucks.

I don't know...I ordered one.....seems worth it to me.

Oh yeah...polish what you can on the inside of your intake and gasket match. If you don't get the 55mm t/b, you could remove the lip on your stock one. Little stuff adds up.

my suggestion would be to rebuild it like you were going to boost. save ur money on the cams...buy some eagle rods(300), and some Wiseco pistons(460 shipped). stock head will flow fine for now...you'll have a built bottom end ready for the boost it will eventually get.

if you insist on going the other route, save ur money...ur car isn't ready for Drag cams....try get a header of some kind first maybe be original and get custom stainless 4-1 headers or something...u have a lot of stuff to buy before #16's should even be considered...

good luck

-Mike

Thanks alot for the info, the headers never crossed my mind. I already have the lip taken off of the throttle body, id like to have a 54 or 55mm anyways. Keep the thoughts coming, this thread can be used for reference in the future.
