Well some of you know that I have been in the process of pulling my engine and trying to diagnose what the problem was with the motor. Well turns out we were right, it was a spun rod bearing. Last night I finnaly got the rods/pistons out of the block and this is where I went holy shit batman look what we have here! Here are some pics to show you what happened.
You can see in this picture that the bearing has been worn down drastically, and on the edges its almost like flakes of metal. Though I found none of those in the oil or oil pan.
Heres another just to show the two again, you can see where they have been worn with all the grooves/scoring. That lil piece to the side is the piston skirt from the piston in cylinder 1.
Here is the holy shit picture. I found the piece of the skirt in the bottom of my oilpan before I had the engine pulled, this is where I went oh no this not looking too good. Well to my avail the crank has only been lightly scored and the cylinder wall has no gouges or scoring whatsoever. I'm not too worried about the crank, as I am planning on going wit a 2.2l now. I have to say I got pretty lucky.

Well now I am kinda stuck, theres only a couple things holding me back now. 1 being the crankshaft oil seal, I need some kind of puller to get that off without nicking it or bending it up. Also there is one sensor that I cannot get off on the back of the block, its right near the bottom of the block with 1 10mm bolt holding it in, its like a semi-oval/diamond looking sensor, hows that thing come out. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

*sheds light*
thats called the crank angle sensor, theres marks on the crank that a magnetic pickup sees and knows when to adjust spark timing. its held in by a rubber 0-ring and 1 10mm bolt, be CAREFUL getting it out because sometimes the plastic is all deteriorated and it will break off, PITA! and its NOT CHEAP! so be careful man, seriously. not to sound like captain paranoia, but it has the potential to cause you much grief
as to the crankshaft oil seal, you might as well go buy another one from napa or something, its worth it just to have the security because a leaky rear main is not fun
