did AEM make separate intakes for the 95-96 and 97-99 models? The reason I am asking is because i have a 97 eclipse GS and I think I just bought a used AEM (old version) intake from someone who had a 95-96 (not sure). The intake doesn't seem to bolt up properly.
Also, to create room for the filter, should I remove the plastic splashguard from under the car? I would rather not do this, but it seems that this is the only way the filter would fit underneath the car. Thanks guys!

When I had mine, it was a bitch to put in. Then again I was a noob comming to stuff like that. The pipe piece should fit with no problems, but the filter needs to be put in underneath the car, and secured. It fits in a cubby, I guess you could call it, far underneath the fuse box. To be honest, I dont remember where it bolted to the car...
But thats how I put it in.

yeh mines injen but id bet its about the same, i had 2 put the piping in, then jack up the front and put the filter in from the bottom, my suggestion would be to invest in a splashguard, i dunno how many times mines saved my ass in just the last few months... and i live in the desert. gl

I believe most CAIs require to trim the splashguard. The instructions that came with my AEM v2 told me to, so I used a dremel to make it clean. The V2 mounts on a rubber bushing into an existing hole the OEM air box was on. The filter (I think all DSM CAIs are the same in general location) sits behind the driver side fake-brake cooler thing. Remove the two clips from the backside for the bumper and the plug will come out exposing the filter to fresh air. This is of course a 97-99 bumper I am talking about though.

I have a ractive cold air intake (with a huge ass K&N filter/it screams but anyway) it sits right inside/on top of the plastic slash guard (not in the bumper)I feel safer this way....and doesn't the aem intake get wet I know it takes a lot to do damage like running ur car thru a lake but my luck all it would take is a few sprinkles on my filter and my engine hrydro-locks.....

Engines are surprising tough when sucking in water. It is when people submerge their filter in a puddle when it acts like a straw-water is incompressible so you end up bending a rod, *cough* Shawn *cough* and then needing a new bottom end. When I was into pushrod engines and such my friends and I would steam clean the insides of old engines by attaching a vaccuum line to a port on the intake and sticking the other end in a bottle of water, then ATF (acts as a good detergent) and using our fingers to meter it so not too much would get sucked in.

But back to the point I just went cruising around the Phoenix valley tonight with rain and mild puddles and I know my AEM v2 gets sprayed quite a bit but my motor is fine.

If you do not know how deep it is, DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH IT. And if you hear your 420a start to bog, turn the key off as fast as you can son.

i have a 97 gs. i didn't have to trim anything but i did have to put the filter in from underneath. i m on pro kits tho.

the black plastic piece of trim can easily be bent up so you can fit the filter under into the front bumper. It takes me under 2min to install the intake/filter/mount/and rubber coupling.

Yeah there shouldn't be a struggle putting a fitted AEM CAI on.
