Hey guys well like ^^^ says I'm starting to pull my engine and I'd like to know of any tricks or anything you guys have picked up. I have pulled many engines in the past just not a 420a out of an eclipse. I also have the Haynes manual and it's full of good info, but I'm just nervous about all the connections with the wiring harness and getting the harness to look good when I reinstall. The manual suggests pulling the trasaxle. Do you guys do this, or leave it in the car? I'm putting in a spec stage 3 clutch, wiseco pistons & rings, mls head gasket, Hahn stage 1 kit, and possible eagle rods. Wish me luck and keep the info coming.

eh, u could just pull the engine, but pulling both together isnt that hard. pop the axles out, and disconnect all the harnesses. the shifting cables. clutch slave line. the plugs only go into one sensor, so your good to go. drain all fluids. take out radiator for clearance.drop the tranny side down and pull it out on a angle. hard to explain.

and make sure you get some zip lock baggies. and lable them and stick all the bolts in there.

Leave the tranny in the car. Much easier IMO.

Remove the PS pump, and the AC compressor from their brackets and move them out of the way. Do not disconnect the lines. Remove the radiator. Undo the wiring from the motor and pull them all to the drivers side. Remove Crank pulley. Remove crossmember and rear motor mount bracket. Hook enigne up to engine hoist. Remove oil pan to get to lower transmission access panel. Remove 4 bolts that go through flywheel to clutch assy. Remove transmission to motor bolts. Lift engine out of car while supporting tranny on a jack.

Any questions?

^^^ On the dot, I just went through this process also, was also my first time pulling the engine. Its not as hard as you would think it is. Just remember to LABEL EVERYTHING. This means putting all bolts, brackets, etc... within certain assemblies into ziplock bags or something similar so you don't lose anything. Also label or mark any sensors/vaccum lines that you may not remember where they go. Good luck and if you have questions remember we here to help ya when we can!

if you do leave the tranny in, make sure you take the underdrive pulley off...its the only way you can clear the flywheel from the tranny
