Well i just did a compression test right now, its really cold out side but i made sure my car was at normal opt. temp..

Once it was did all 4

cyn 1- 180

cyn 2- 171

cyn 3- 180

cyn 4 -180

good or bad? i cant rember if that low or not

(mods - ported head, 3 angle vavle job, rebuilt bottom end, 20 over...etc)

Yes that's good because the numbers are hovering around that area, and the lowest comp is off by only 5%. 15% is the limit I think. Also, compression numbers are affected by altitude... so the important thing is that the number 171 is not at 150 while the rest are at 180.

Well... For further reference. My car is boosted no blow buy. Compression numbers are 190 190 195 185. This is up north in caifornia. When I first did the compression test, I did this back home in LA and my comp numbers where in the 180s. Difference in numbers cause by altitude.

How's your car health-wise? Are you trying to boost it? What year and how many miles?

Altitude will effect the compression levels so keep that in mind.

no im not boosting, see im going to next week, thats why im doing this test to make sure my moter is in good health...its a 96

well for .020 over i'd say those compression numbers are pretty good

I did basically did a full motor rebuild, I had a rod knock so I rebuilt the bottom end by a place called “modern engine”, they did 20 over, but as far as I no, they put in stock pistons, I didn’t tell them to do any performance anything, they told me they did a factory rebuild.. While that was being done I sent my head off to have it port/polish, 3 angle valve job, and upgraded valve springs…it was cleaned and they made sure everything checked out nice….

So the whole bottom end is new (rebuilt), and the head was checked and a lot of new parts….

That motor should be in brand new condition….so if im in LA, are they good numbers?

Boost it imo. Where in LA are you?

You pretty much have almost a new motor.

Yea, im getting sponsered from a local turbo shop..stage 3 setup, t3/t4, custom tublar mani, the works, for 1900$ installed


But, are these numbers GOOOD, for a basicly brand new motor??

Yeah, I think so. As long as there's no problem with the motor.

Also, stage 3 implies built internals; are you sure it is stage 3 (ie. hrc stage 3 is just the low compression pistons)?

Um if he has factory internals shouldn't he being seeing 225 or close to it across the board?

if you got headwork done, they probably decked your head too, which would've increased your compression. Doesn't look like it by your numbers though.

He said he got the block bored .020" over, w/ stock internals that would slighty lower compression.

Ok...

Well it’s a stage 3(there stage 3); it’s a custom kit from a turbo shop. .Im not going to do my internals yet, because I will only be boosting 8psi...It’s a stage 3 because it’s a custom tubular manifold, and a t3/t4 turbo, APEXi Front mount, Greddy blow off , gages, profec B, that’s why they call it’s a stage 3 because it can boost high (once I do my internals), it’s the top of the line equipment.
But it will be 8 pounds tell I do my internals (summer)

So, they did .020 over with a stock rebuild, would that lower my compression to where I am at???

Are these numbers to low?

i read that there supposed to be 170-250 stock
