I got my N1 in today and went to the local shops to get prices to install. Well I only found one place that would even install it. The guy said just to leave it with him and he can do it. So I asked how much would he charge me and he says about 3 hours at $75 per hour! That seems like an awfull lot to instal a catback and universal cat doesn't it? The only hard part I can see would be to connect the cat to the 2.5in dp what do you think?

Do it yourself.
Jack the car up,
spray something to loosen up the bolts,
get down there with a socket wrent and breaker bar.
You should be done in way less than an hour.

The universal cat has no flanges, some need to be welded on. Also the cat is slightly longer than the oem one so it may need to have the ends trimed. I do not have a mig welder or a tourch to do these jobs. OK lets say I could get someone to weld on flages to the cat I can use a simple 3" one to the back exhaust but what would I use to the dp side? It is a 2.5 in" dp to a 3in" cat how do match these together?

Install the catback and leave the stock cat on. If worst comes to worst and you have to pay for the cat to be installed/welded at least you already have the catback on and don't need to pay for that.

You should have got the direct fix high flow cat from ERT.

Oh yeah, if you have air tools you should be able to install the catback in about 20 min.

So I can use the flanges on the 3inch exhaust to attach to the 2.25inch (or what ever it is) oem cat? How will these 2 different size flanges work together?

they'll be fine. use some RTV along with the gasket.

3 hours if he prys the bolts off with his fingers maybe...

even having to weld, trim, and install... it shouldnt take more than 1 hour

the N1 took less than half an hour for the shop to install for me. and only that long b/c the old bolts were rusted and he had to torch them. i don't see how even welding new flanges/adapters could possibly take that long. prolly woulda been easiest if you bought a bolt up high flow cat/straight pipe like the ones RRE sells
