This might be a stupid question, but is there a chain drive timing belt for our cars, or for the 4g63s?? Just curious, I'm coming up on the maintenance check.

Chains are less reliable???? I thought that was the whole point of a chain. I think the absolutley only reason a rubber belt is used is because it's quiter and a little bit lighter (but not really the reason).

No. You can't use a chain. For one, chains on V8's last a long time, yes, but it's because they're sealed into the motor and lubricated by the motor's oil. I wanna see you try that with a 420A. As well, a belt has a known service interval. A timing belt will never break if installed correctly and changed when recommended.
That power output of the motor doesn't matter as far as the belt is concerned. At 50HP or 500HP, the stress on the belt will be exactly the same if all it's doing is turning stock cams on stock springs.
