#68726, "knock sensor placement on neon engine....quick question"

i recently bought a 2001 sohc neon engine.... the knock sensor is on the front instead of the back....the screw hole is in the back for it, but im assuming they moved it to the front because of the exhaust manifold..... my question is can i move that to the back? i was unsure how it picks up the "knock"....any help would be appreciated...thanks

Put it in back, no worries, it detects vibration and is basically a sensitive microphone.

Yeah my 1995 SOHC block had the knock sensor in the front too.

It's the same sensor, just move it to the back.

Bonus cause now you know what one of those unused threaded holes in the front of your block is for.

Some 97 models have two knock sensors. I have yet to figure that one out... but i bought a 97 2gnt motor complete, and there was a knock sensor in the front, AND a knock sensor in the back. Strange.

where is our knock sensor located then? front or back? also, if we have a knock sensor than would this work for us...

Typically in the back.

yes, we have a knock sensor.

No, the J&S Safeguard will not work out of the box.

any idea what would need to be different about it? or would it just be wiring?

Different sensor styles. Ours sends a waveform to the ECU. Most send an increasing voltage as noise (knock) increases.

damn, i didn;t know our Knock sensor was in wave form, i was looking at this diagram:

that box has the same inputs that we have on our ECU, or is it a design specifically only for the MR2?

as a matter of fact, it doesn't matter which diagram you look at, for all the cars i saw, the J&S box inputs are all the same, we just gotta look for our ECU wiring for all what needs to be plugged into it. i guess it can work. i'll call them on Monday and see if it's possible for our cars to use it.
