#68666, "Engine = AAARRRrggghhh !"

This morning I went out to start my car for shcool and it starts fine and everything . I get out and walk around the front of the car . I notice this " knocking noise " coming from the right whell well , or somewhere close. I have no idea what it is . It also has this chugging sound like the fuel pump is located there but it isnt. It's actually in the engine bay but towards the right wheel well( when your in the car ) I have no idea what to do . Im clueless .

you could pass. just put a cat on. but alot of states are doing obd2 tests for 96 and newer cars. all you would have to do is lean it out and put on a ground kit. it would drop our hcs like you wouldnt believe. mix 1/2 race gas with 1/2 96 or the highest you could find with a stock cat and exhaust and you would be good to go. i do the emissions testing.

Donot remove the EVAP..... not only will if *definitely* not pass smog..... but it serves as a purpose for our for our electronic controlled fuel system (IE: Better fuel milage *much better*, Also u will start to through codes... like O2 Sensorcircut error ,beause u will be running lean (not good fr HP))... first of all let me explain what an EVAP canister does. (taken from ASE prep Engine proformance 2 L1 exam)

"The canester is locin or near the engine compartmant. Fuel vapors (some liquid fuel)from the gas tank or carberatorare routed and absorbed onto the surfaces of the canisters
charcoal granuals. When the vehical is restarted, vapors are drawn by vacume into the intake manifold to be burned in the engine."

If tank pressure becomes grater than the spec. amount (read in the ECU)a solenoid opens and allows fuel (liquid/vapor) into the evap as a small over flow.

For moreinfo check the manual for Duty Cycle Purge Solenoid. this will take you one step further in the process....

I also have Charts showing when the canister is on or off...

Hope this helps...

JAke

Ps
to fix your problem...... take out the canister and turn it upside down..... the bottom pops off and you should see and spongy type filter.... clean it by running cool water throgh it...... following blowing it out by using an air compressor...same with the sylenoid.
