I've never seen a valve guide go bad in a 420A head, just replace the valve stem seals.

What you can do to your head depends on your pocketbook. I would go with a least a street port. If you are looking to push a lot of boost, and run her at the track I would go with a race port. You can concider that for the street as well, the high rpm range will really flow then. I would also concider cams. They are a good investment. In which case you should send the extra money and upgrade the valve springs. If you are going to be spendign a lot of time in the high rpm range or plan on raising you rev limit. The Ti retainers are nice for lowering rotational mass in the valvetrain.

When doing head work make sure whoever you take it knows what they are doing and knows you are going turbo. We do different port/polish jobs depending on NA or turbo applications, just slightly different tricks for each application.

As you can see all this works add up by the time you do all teh little things. But that's not saying you can't spend less and still be better off.
