#67377, "2.4 info needed ASAP, and yes I searched..LOL"

Just wondering if one of you guys that have taken on the task can mail me with a pretty complete list of all that needs to be done for the swap. One of my friends that runs a shop was building up a 2.4 to drop into his Neon and decided to cross over to the darkside and get a Hatch. He has given me the 2.4 and we really want to put it in, but the best I have been able to come up with for info doing a search has been:

Motor mounts
Oil pan
cam sensor/injector re-wire...

Really want to weigh the option as my tax money is due in soon and I want to be able to either go forward on this or just rebuild my current block.
Appreciate all info provided.

TIA

Don

you need to custom fab some alternator brackets, and power steering and ac if you want them. Search for 2.4 under advanced search and the1bill, skrilla, and motofool put alot info already with detailed lists on what needs to get done.

EDIT:
I just found the link and here it is. I think this will benefit you alot: http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=49686

Hope this helps

One thing I am noticing on the few pics of peoples installs.

1. The whole windage tray thing. Is this absolutely necessary or something you guys are doing just to help out more???

2. Also, what piston/rod combo are you guys using? I have the large majority are going with the stock SRT4 ones. How strong are they actually? Looking at tossing about 15-18PSI at this thing and want to make sure if I go with those that they will hold up(still trying to get over the fact that from the dealer they are only $60 each for rod and piston assembled).

3. How have you guys hanled the accesory mounting, mainly the alternator, since I guess if I must I can do without the PS.

4. Can anyone provide the specs for exactly how much the oil pan needs to be cut down and modified?

Think that's it for now, just trying to cover all the bases before I go full bore on this as it will need to be done in a pretty short(ie 1 1/2 month) time frame.

TIA emoji

Don

Oh and one more question. Do the balance shafts have to come out, guessing they do because of the cross member issue. Correct?

1. The whole windage tray thing. Is this absolutely necessary or something you guys are doing just to help out more???

you have to do something because the balancing shaft assembly are also working as a baffle, without them you have a too deep pan prone to oil slushing

2. Also, what piston/rod combo are you guys using? I have the large majority are going with the stock SRT4 ones. How strong are they actually? Looking at tossing about 15-18PSI at this thing and want to make sure if I go with those that they will hold up(still trying to get over the fact that from the dealer they are only $60 each for rod and piston assembled).

read the other post about them here
they can stand 400 whp proven

3. How have you guys hanled the accesory mounting, mainly the alternator, since I guess if I must I can do without the PS.

alternator you could do something with the bracket of the pt cruiser

4. Can anyone provide the specs for exactly how much the oil pan needs to be cut down and modified?

to each his own but on mine I remove enought for a decent downpipe

and YES you have to remove the balancing shafts assembly , unless you don't care about a downpipe rubbing on the asphalt

don't forget that you will have to play with your hood to get it to close, the 2.4 block is about an inch higher than the 2.0 block.

you'll also have to extend the down pipe by about an inch to get it to fit properly.

if you want my opinion Howell should do one
they already have a custom CNC engine support , which include a power steering support too, made for a 2.4 swap in a second generation neon

all they would need to do would be a junction part that goes between this engine and our second half in the fender
see how nice it is

I asked by email twice without answer
I asked on the boards, again this week in the srt-4 pistons threads below and no answer again

anyway I want to order one and try to do something with it
and If I have to , I will use a second generation neon power steering pump

According to Gary's theories, he doesnt believe in the 2.4L through past discussions Ive had with him over the phone at Howell.

I ordered the engine support tonight
I will see what I can invent around that part to make it usable

I started to work on something similar in the past but found out about howell's unit
