been a crazy fee weeks.. First my tranny went.. now my brother tells me I might need a new engine. From what he tells me theres some smoke coming from behind the engine.. just under the Intake manifold after the car warms up. Then when the cars warmed up.. a shit load of smoke... like dark grey smoke comes out of my exhaust. the engines not overheating though. I live in Canada hence why I have to heat up my car.
Is it time for a an engine overhaul? or a new engine? Any ideas how much its gonna cost me all in all.. Parts, Labor,Installation. Should I bring it to the dealership?

You might have a blown head gasket. Did you check your compression? Is there oil leaking anywhere on the block? Don't bring it to the dealer unless your still under warrenty.

No i havent done a compression test yet... is that recomended??? Sorry im kinda a newbie...the only thing i know how to do is change the oil... the last time i brought it to a mechanic outside the dealership was a bad experience because he said you need all sorts of special tools to service Dsm's. what should i do... any idea how much a engine overhaul would cost? i mean nothing fancy.. just get it working???

It doesnt mean you need to rebuild your engine. If it is just smoke from behind the intake mani or the exh mani for that matter, it is probably just a head gasket (probably I said), which requires just a new head gasket and head bolts. If you get both stock from Napa or somewhere, you can do all of this for less than 150 bucks yourself. How many miles do you have on it??? B/c if you are near your timing tuning, you might as well do it before it goes and then you are in trouble. You may also wanna check your oil, if it is a brown-merky color it usually indicates that it is mixed w/ coolant, which is a guarantee head gasket (well unless your head and block dont meet, but that's very rare) So basically what I'm saying is, if you wanna do a rebuild, it's gonna be expensive if you dont do it yourself, but if you just are gonna fix your problem, that is where you are also. Just my 2 cents.... g'luck
