#66160, "Theoretical limit of stock crankshaft?"

I'm just thinking down the line, with my plans and so forth...

Does anyone happen to know the theoretical limit on how much the stock cast iron crank can handle? Or hell, if anyone has ever broken one, what conditions did it crack under?

Thanks,
Corey

No one has found it as far as i know. HP wise, it'll take all you can make. Rev wise, i wouldn't take it much beyond 9000RPm just due to rod stresses.

well, the most powerful Dyno I've seen so far here on 2GNT is the 341 whp that siueclipse put down. There could be more powerful ones out there that I've forgotten or overlooked.

I'm not sure if Hahn is still using a stock crankshaft, but if he is, then you have nothing to worry about. Unless you plan on pulling 9 second passes or lower in the future.

Ah ... people over looking things again ... we aren't the only car with a 420a block guys. No one with a 2gNT has broken a stock crank from excess HP (doesn't include other mishaps or incorrect installation/machining). Remember there is Bill's RS, Len's Neon, and a myriad of other high HP 420a running around. So don't worry about it. And yes Armond is putting around 400whp in his Avenger.

353 on 18lbs

I'd say on we are similar to other high HP blocks with the power the crank can handle. I know the 420a can withstand what 750CHP
