ok i have a 96 eclipse spyder gs ( which has a 4g64 n/t engine.) but it slung a rod!!! so i need a new engine.. but i want to go ahead and do an engine swap... i was wandering if anyone has ever pulled this off.. i would like to put in either a 420A dohc. or a 4g63 dohc engine.. i am also planning on adding forged pistons to which ever i get and eventually adding a turbo to it. possibly a stage 3... i know that more than likely i will have to change the tranny during this.. and i thought about going with a 5 speed... instead of an auto but i dont really know... PLEASE HELP!!!!

id assume that dropping a 4g63 in there would be a lot easier than a 420a

You will have an easier time putting in a 4g63 then a 420a

I would rebuild the internals on yours and put a 4g63 head on it.

http://4g64.150m.com/ has alot of good info for you

Uber got own3d by a no0b! :O Karma sir. Karma.

IS you tranny scattered all over the road? And just what was going on that would cause the block to be shattered and tranny shot all at once?
I'd say you should find a used 4g63 somewhere with the turbo on it. Get it rebuilt professionally, making sure the turbo is tight and trouble free, while thats being done, you should check out that site listed above for the 4g64 and perhaps (shudders) DSMtooners to see what else you'd need to run the turbo engine in your car (like ECU etc). Collect all your parts, and install it.

As far as the tranny goes, if there's nothing wrong with it (or it can be fixed), I'd say stay with it and save the money. If there is something wrong and you have to get a new tranny, go for the MT. Autos suck balls imo. However, your engine is 180* from most of ours. You have a different tranny too. There are only a few people here who will know exactly what you need to do. And don't sweat the flames man, it's just that, at the mention of an engine swap on ANY DSM board, most people just skip it and leave a nsty remark because for the most part, it's a waste of time and energy.

Good luck

I think a 420A Spyder would be cool... but a whole lot of work, you have to rewire... well just about everything. Not worth it in my opinion.

I'd rebuild the 4G64 and boost the extra displacement.

Boost on the 4g64 is sweet. I hear most everything from the 4g63T will bolt up. Go with that, imo.

well like i said i cant use my engine.
and from what i have heard trying to boost a 4g64 is bout the same amount of work as installing a 4g63t. so i guess that is what i will do... and as far as the tranny. nothing is wrong with it. i just didnt know if the tranny i had would bolt right up to the 4g63...
