#65849, "WTF@$!@# NOT AGAIN!! help me solve this never-ending problem"

Problem: Car misfires badly during acceleration below 3k rpm or so.

Heres what ive done:

-Replaced wires
-Replaced Coil pack
-Replaced spark Plugs (last thurs)

When i put the new plugs in, the car ran fine until this morning. it always does this when i replace something. it will run fine for a few days and i think i fixed it, but it will run like shit in 3-5 days. and on idle, the rpms fluctuate badly. they'll sit at 800 for a while, then drop to 500 and go back and forth really fast. like its about to die or something. i was standing outside my car while it was doing it this afternoon, and you could hear it doing this from the exhaust. and it looked like the muffler was about to fall off.

it did the exact same thing the other day (well its been doing it for months, years now). but i regapped my old plugs, switched back to my old wires, and cleaned of the map sensor and it ran fine for a few days. then i drove to best buy (20min away) and it starts acting up again. it seems to do it when i get on the interstate. the time before that, it was running good and then i drove back to school and about 1/4 of the way there, the rough idle started again and i could barely accelerate.

when i accelerate, i cant even push the gas half way down or will fuck up and misfire.

ive had cels before with this problem. 43 every time (duh) but i dont know exactly which cylinder it is.

the plugs are gapped around .043 as per chilton manual and i got the coil pack from autozone. im thinking of just switching all of my ignition back to stock to see what happens. a few days ago i put the stock wires back on and it seemed to run fine, then it screwed up on the way to best buy. maybe its the autozone coil? i'll put the old one back on.

but anyways...PLEASE HELP ME

Have you ever checked any fuel components out? I would take a look at your fuel filter, then start looking for a clogged injector.

Also, I had a similar problem and it was the plug wires. When I replaced them with some brand new ones from pep boys it started doing the same thing a month later. Then I went to Accel wires and I havent had a problem since. Sometime new cheap wires just suck.

misfires can also be caused by bad crank or cam sensors.

I agree with the other guys. I would make sure your plug wires aren't making contact with any metal pieces from elsewhere because the spark will jump causing misfires. I had this problem with the magnecore wires. Check to make sure you have clean way in the pcv check valve coming from your valve cover to your intake mani. Then make sure you don't have a bad crank or cam sensor.

could it have anything to do with coming in contact with the strut bar?

If it is shorting out on the strust bar, open your hood at night and let someone gas or just idle your car. You should able to see an arc, but I doubt it.
I personally don't think it is fuel related, because if so... I think you'll have problem throughout all rpms.

Tell me more about when and how it happens. Does it miss fire ONLY when less than 3k rpm? My miss fired only hard/full throttle. It usually missfired up to 4k then it would run like it should and sometimes it went away. more detail would be nice

My dad has this Snap-On machine that runs a detergent through the fuel lines and injectors. Amazing difference emoji

well the cel came on. 31 and 43. i took a look at the cam angle sensor (on the right side next to the intake tube?) and it was covered in dirt and grease. im gonna try and clean it off and unplug it to see if dirt is in there.

i had somewhat a similar problem, car would sometimes strat up on 2 cylinders and barely run then jut stat runnign fine all of a sudden, went to have it fixed and the guy replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor and coil pacl. no problems since then. although i did have a idle problem recently where car would not idle, just drop to like 200 rpms and dies or catch itself, changed out the IAC motor and problem solved again

yeah I'm having this problem again too now. But I noticed I was very rich during boost so I believe it's just my plugs fouling up again. But I will run some injector cleaners through the tank.

It's possible the timing is off. You could check for this by jacking up the car, remove the spark plugs, and turn the crank to see if the cam gears line up at TDC (of course you won't be able to see TDC without removing the crank pulley, but at least you can see if the timing marks are aligned.)

Have you done a compression test? If you have a bad compression in one of the cylinders, that might indicate a worn piston ring, valve seal, or other leaks. Usually, when the car sputters and shakes sporatically, it's a result of compression or timing problems. When I did my timing belt, my car actually idled sporatically, and the tail pipe was shaking real bad, because my initial timing was off by about 5 degrees. Just something for you to look into.

no

That is the ONLY way. All it takes is ONE tooth. I tried setting up timing once and got it perfect second time aroun emoji

It's a pain but worth checking a couple times to make sure you have it right.
