you definatley need your system recharged. And I wouldn't turn the a/c on beofre then...for one it won't blow cool...and for another I think the a/c coolant acts as a lubricant for the compressor (actually I think they add a lubricant to the coolant)....other then a pain in the ass and some money you should be ok.

You can run heat, but not defrost. The defrost kicks on the AC. I saw a mod somewhere that you could do to make the AC stay off while the defrost is on. You can get R-134a recharge kits from Autozone that come with everything needed to recharge your system. Hopefully they carry them this time of year.

The system needs to be recharged. Have a shop do this. There are certain pressures you need to achioeve when charging it up.

Until then pull the AC clutch relay so the compressor won't engage. Yes, the refrigerent does act as a bit of a lubricant.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!! after going back across town to my car, i figured out i didnt have to mess with the a/c line. i forgot i put a bolt in place to keep my downpipe together (ever since ie been having problems with it coming apart), and forgot to unscrew it. DAMN IT!!! emoji emoji

how much does something like this cost to get charged/fixed? i noticed the line went into the water pump i believe. also.... where is the AC clutch relay?

I'm not sure on a price to charge the system...
The lines should go back to the firewall into the condensor, not the waterpump.

The Ac Clutch Relay is in the fuse/relay box in the engine bay in front of the ECU.

waterpump or the power steering i think. i dont know which one is whice. the line that i took off was right by the dipstick. not sure if u remember/seen a turboed 420a, but it would be right by the downpipe.

I've seen a few, haha.

Went into compressor, not waterpump, but right down there. The AC lines are n the way of a good downpipe, so usually you have to give them a little bending.

If you pull the relay you'll be fine. Turn the AC on, turn defrost on, it won't matter the compressor won't kick on.

It'll cost you about $70 to have your a/c serviced emoji

i called a couple mitsu dealerships and asked them about it. they said ill be fine running my defrost without the a/c. ok. so i tried it (with the a/c relay fuse out) and it seems to work just fine. so really, i guess u dont need it unless u want your a/c. so that will save me some money right now, and wait till summer to charge it if i want.

the defrost doesnt use A/C unless the A/C light is on. Which means you must push the button to use it. I did the same thing to my eclipse (420a though) by accident and I just dont push the button for the A/C, that's what satan here told me to do, and everything works fine..defrost works as it usually does, shitty but like it usually does. I'm gettin mine recharged for free as soon as my mom's friend has the time to do it, so I'll patiently wait, so it costs me notta..g'luck..peace
