i was surfin Ebay,( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=597323641&r=0&t=0 )and i saw an ad for this exhaust dump tube rig that you could weld into the exhaust system either before or after the cat, and it had a lever on it that switched the position of a flap and it basically dumps the exhaust to the atmosphere, and doesnt allow it to travel through the rear section of the exhaust.
now, i wanna hear from yall
if this would be a good mod (for race purposes only) it eliminates the cat, if welded infront of it
if it would cause me to burn up the bottom side of my car (even though the dump tube would be pointed at like a 40 degree angle downwards)
if any of you guys have used it or thought about it give me sum info
thanks

The downstream o2 is only for emissions. This will work for our cars and would allow race gas to be used without killing the cat.
I have been thinking of incorporating something like this in my exhaust system rather than buying a test pipe so I could use race gas. This way I am still legal in case someone gets suspicious.
I wouldn't think you would need it though unless turbo.. I would just be using it to preserve the cat. It looks like it would be a bitch to switch though.
As for it burning up the underside of the car.... no, it won't
My roomate has a dump tube welded to the turbo on his TSi to eliminate boost creep. As he was flying past me one day I looked under the car and saw blue flames shooting out the tube and onto the ground. As long as the tube is faced away from the car, it should be safe.

Okay I have no cat on my car as it is but I also have my exhaust setup so I can remove everything from the empty cat back. I noticed NO difference at the track with it open or running through the muffler. I wouldn't waste the money on it unless you are turbo or nos, but you still may not have any gains with it that way either.

well, im n/a, and i need my cat to pass emmisions. of course it would give me sum gains if i welded it infront of my cat, i would just get a cell everytime i used it, lol, cuz the second 02 sensor. but the ? is, would it be a worthwhile mod?

Nope, no CEL when you use it, the second o2 won't see anything still, when you gut the cat it starts seeing unburned fuel and trips the CEL, The gains I have with no cat are VERY minimal, maybe 1 - 2 HP

That's what I was gonna ask my muffler guy when he makes me some new exhaust sections next week. That'd be nice to have cause now I have to unbolt my exhaust everytime I want to run high boost. -- Brad Rickard 98 GS HRC Stage V (nuff said)
