I am thinking about getting a short ram intake, over a cold air intake cuz i am scared as hell about hyrolocking my engine. Where i live the water can get pretty deep in the streets and don't want to take a chance. Is that the right thing to do? Does anyone have a Short Ram intake???? Do you like it?? Worth the money over stock??

If you are going for the short ram route. You might as well buy an Autozone Brand Cone Filter. Then clamp it on to the stock plastic tubing. Just remove the stock box and resonator. Its fairly easy. You will get the same results as buying any other short ram system. It also sounds way better than the stock intake.

You can do that ^^^ or you can just get a ebay short ram. One of my first mods was a Ractive short ram intake. I really liked it. Made a nice power gain and sounded great.

If you want a intake get a cold air.It sounds alot better than a short ram.If you scared about the rain just take the bottom half off and connect the filter to the top half and you have a short intake.It only take a couple minutes.

cold air is better. trust me, ive had both. i have never had a problem with hydrolocking and i live in florida where it rains all the damn time. just dont be stupid by driving into a big puddle and youll be fine.

I have a ractive short ram too. Never had a cold air but the ractive gave a nice gain over stock so either way you'll be satisfied.

Short ram= Saftey and performance
Cold air = performance performance/safety

Yeah.. general consensus is that cold air is better, but don't be stupid around water, or get a good CAI that you can divide into 2 parts so you can put the filter on the short end in rainy season. Very few ppl hydrolock their cold air intake engines but it does happen... I have a ebay short ram right now but I think CAI may do to short ram what short ram did to stock...

Can't go wrong either way. I like the peace of mind I get with shortram, and I couldn't afford a good AEM CAI.

Hydrolocking does happen. It's all kinds of fun too. The best thing to do is like the other guys have said, get a two-piece cold air and just use the upper half in sever weather. The only problem I ran into with that was that sometimes(very rarely) when the engine torqued, my short ram would knock my cam angle sensor out. I just moved the filter back a bit, and it didn't hit anymore.
